๐๏ธ Tackling anti-social behaviour is about making sure people feel safe and proud of where they live.
It was good to welcome Policing Minister Sarah Jones to Hertfordshire and discuss how the introduction of Respect Orders can support the work already happening to tackle persistent offending and protect our communities.

๐ฎ Respect Orders will be an important new tool to crack down on persistent anti-social behaviour.
Hertfordshire Police are ready to use them, but for these new powers to make a real difference, the wider criminal justice system must follow through. Courts need to respond promptly and there must be meaningful consequences when orders are breached.
Ultimately, this is about tackling prolific offending and making Hertfordshire safer for everyone.

๐Over the summer, I joined Hertfordshire Police and Trading Standards at a Car Boot in Great Amwell to see first-hand how they're working together to keep local people safe and crack down on crime.
Officers carried out checks on tools being sold, including using UV light to look for SelectaDNA markings, while Trading Standards investigated suspected counterfeit goods.
โ
No stolen tools were identified, but it highlighted why marking your tools is so important. Those forensic markings can help trace stolen equipment and support its recovery.

๐ฎ Good to join Hertfordshire Police at a busy car boot sale in Hemel Hempstead and see first-hand the proactive checks taking place to spot stolen tools and other illegal goods.
I'm pleased that no tools were being sold and no signs of stolen property were identified.
Visible policing and regular checks like these help prevent crime, reassure the public and make it harder for criminals to profit from theft.

๐ง Tool theft isn't a minor inconvenience. It can stop someone earning a living overnight.
Over the past few months, I've been speaking to tradespeople across Hertfordshire at my roadshows handing out forensic marking kits. They've told me about impact this crime is having on them, their businesses and their families. I've heard first-hand about the financial strain, lost work and frustration it causes, and it's clear that more needs to be done.
That's why I'm asking for your help.
I'm carrying out a survey to hear about the effect tool theft is having on those who rely on their tools to earn a living. I want to know what is working and what more needs to be done. The more I hear from people affected, the more I can represent tradespeopleโs views.
If you've had tools stolen or have been affected by tool theft in any way, please take a few minutes to complete the survey linked in the comments.
๐ And if you've been a victim of tool theft, please report it to Hertfordshire Police. Reporting helps officers identify patterns, target enforcement activity and understand where the problem is greatest.
๐ฌ Your experience matters. Please complete the survey and help me continue pushing this issue up the agenda: tinyurl.com/55vumkx7

๐ก Some of the best ideas for preventing crime come from local communities.
We're halfway through the Community Cashback application period and we've already received some brilliant bids to support victims, keep young people safe, and improve safety across Hertfordshire.
This project is returning money from property seized from criminals to the community.
If your organisation has a great idea to make your community safer, now is the time to apply.
โฐ Applications close on 30 October.

Violence against women and girls remains one of the biggest challenges facing our society.
The theme of this year's Hertfordshire Partnership VAWG Conference is "unfinished business", and I think that's exactly right. While we've made real progress across Hertfordshire, far too many women and girls still experience abuse, violence and harassment.
We must continue working together to support victims, hold perpetrators to account and challenge the behaviours and attitudes that underpin violence against women and girls.
Creating a safer Hertfordshire for women and girls remains a top priority for me.

๐ฉธ Saving lives starts with being prepared.
I'm proud to support the rollout of bleed control kits across Hertfordshire, with funding helping Hearts for Herts provide this potentially life-saving equipment to communities across our county.
These kits can make a real difference in those critical moments before emergency services arrive, giving people the tools they need to help save a life.
I'll be sharing more about this important work and the impact these kits can have over the coming weeks.

โค๏ธ A year ago, during the Knife Angel's visit to Hertfordshire, Justin from Hearts for Herts taught me how to perform CPR.
CPR is a life-saving skill that could help someone survive a cardiac arrest while they wait for emergency help to arrive.
On Restart a Heart Day 2026, I'm going to watch this video again to refresh my training.
If it's been a while since you learned CPR, or you've never had any training, take a few minutes to check in and learn the basics.
You never know when those skills could help save a life.

๐ค Nobody should be targeted because of their race, religion, disability, gender or any other part of who they are.
At Hertfordshire's annual Hate Crime Awareness Conference this week, I spoke with delegates about the importance of tackling hate crime, supporting victims and building confidence in reporting.
Hertfordshire is a harmonious and cohesive county where people overwhelmingly get along together. But we cannot be complacent. Hate crime has no place in our communities, and tackling it is a responsibility we all share.
I'm proud to see organisations like Electric Umbrella helping to raise awareness of disability hate crime and promote understanding and inclusion.
Together, we can make Hertfordshire a county where everyone feels safe, respected and welcome.

๐๏ธ Retail crime is not a victimless crime, and it won't be tolerated in Hertfordshire.
Earlier this week, I brought retailers, Business Improvement Districts, and Hertfordshire Police together through the Hertfordshire Retail Crime Partnership Board to review progress and strengthen plans for the months ahead.
We're seeing positive signs, with growing confidence from retailers and a continued focus on bringing offenders to justice.

๐ค A great example of partnership working in action.
Last week, partners came together in Welwyn Garden City to help older drivers stay safe, confident and independent on Hertfordshire's roads.
Attendees were able to access expert advice, practical support and information from a range of organisations, all working towards the shared goal of improving road safety.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the event such a success. By bringing together expertise from across different organisations, we can better support residents and help keep people safe for longer.

๐จ This month, dozens of offenders are expected to be released into Hertfordshire earlier than planned as the Government resumes its early release scheme.
I remain deeply concerned about an approach that releases offenders based on a sentence calculation rather than a proper assessment of the risk they may still pose. Victims deserve clear communication and support, and we must be honest about the additional pressure this could place on policing and the wider criminal justice system.
We need a long-term strategy to address prison capacity, not short-term fixes that risk undermining public confidence.

๐ I'm funding innovative tools like SelectaDNA spray to help crack down on waste crime and protect Hertfordshire's countryside.
During routine stop checks, officers can forensically mark waste using SelectaDNA. If that waste is later fly-tipped, the unique marker can help link it back to those responsible.
The spray is invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen under UV light.
It's another way we're making it harder for waste criminals to operate in Hertfordshire. ๐

Support victims and vulnerable residents
โ
Help young people stay safe and thrive
โ
Help women and girls feel safer
