My review of the excellent A Hill in a Dark Grove by Liam Higginson goodreads.com/review/show/79…
They're having to market them as "nobody can tell!" which is both sinister and also funny because it's already apparent that people will look at your nonce glasses with disdain.
We should study the phenomenon of men who trek out to mountain creeks and then film themselves flicking onions into the air with expensive cleavers before slicing them in half with a single swipe.
The perfect AI slop palate cleanser.
LAIKA's new stop-motion film ‘WILDWOOD’ was in production for 7 years.
• Over 1,000 artists worked on the film
• Over 132 practical sets were built
• Over 140,000 individual faces were made for the 236 unique puppets in the film

When I recently wrote about the possibility of a public execution being livestreamed, several people responded by telling me they’d been watching videos of beheadings, torture, and other atrocities since they were children, and that seeing another human being killed wouldn’t bother them in the slightest. They seemed to think this somehow proved me wrong when I said that witnessing such things changes us. But desensitization isn’t evidence that something has no effect on you. Desensitization IS an effect. If you’ve spent your entire life consuming images of human suffering, how could you possibly know what kind of person you might have become without them? How much compassion you might have developed? How much sensitivity you might have retained? And just because some adults have conditioned themselves to view human suffering as entertainment doesn’t mean children should be subjected to it. Once something like this is put on the internet, it becomes impossible to contain. It gets shared, turned into memes, and inevitably reaches people who never chose to see it.
Everyone has heard the phrase “you are what you eat,” but very few people seem to understand that this applies just as much to the mind as it does to the body. Everything you repeatedly give your attention to becomes part of the material from which your inner world is constructed. If you spend years feeding your body garbage, your health will eventually reflect it. And if you spend years feeding your mind hatred, cruelty, violence, and human suffering, your inner world will eventually reflect that as well. You may not even recognize the changes, because they’ve happened so gradually. This is what we mean in alchemy when we say, “The laboratory doesn’t lie.” You can tell yourself that none of it affects you, but that doesn’t make it true. There’s a tremendous difference between having the strength to face human suffering and developing an appetite for watching it. One can deepen our humanity. The other can slowly destroy it.
There should be a law against resurrecting people without their consent.
Houdini is being resurrected by AI for a three-part Fox Nation series titled "Houdini: Back from the Dead,” premiering Oct. 14.
The series chronicles Houdini’s life through his own “words.” The AI-generated Houdini persona will appear similarly to a documentary subject, answering questions about the late illusionist’s life.

Today's good news is that my partner saw loads of giant salmon in the local creek, which incidentally, is called Salmon Creek 😃
And just to think, instead of doing this amazing, creative, inspirational, human labour of love, they could have used AI. 😂
The stop-motion animation work behind LAIKA’s WILDWOOD (2026) is absolutely insane.
136 handcrafted sets, over 200 practical puppets and 49 animators working across 231 weeks, with some shots producing just 1–4 seconds of animation per week.

Why do sociopathic tech bros see human experiences like art and music as things that need to be solved? Go build apps that aide medical industries or solve real world problems like poverty, homelessness, or hunger. Stop trying to commodify every aspect of being human.
Imagine a future where getting a reservation at a restaurant can be done by AI!
Instinct CEO Noah Shinn says agents will let restaurants give tables to birthdays and anniversaries over whoever clicks first
"And traditionally, because of the way that the internet has worked, at least for reservations, it's been first come first serve. So anyone that comes in, no matter how important or how not important it might be, whoever gets in first gets the reservation."
"But what if you had the ability for the agent to be able to communicate on both sides, communicate, hey, this is important. This is actually the person's spouse's birthday, the 30th birthday, a very special event is coming up."
"And the restaurant too can say, let's actually prioritize birthdays or major decade birthdays or major anniversaries or these certain people, I don't know, whatever it might be, right?"
"So now with the ability, with all of the logistical burden of having to describe exactly what your case is and what's happening and why it's important. Now we have the ability to perfectly match what does the restaurant want? What does the user want?"
"And that will result in more special events for the users being able to actually have a spot in the restaurant."

The deer like to relax in our garden and are remarkably unbothered by our presence, including a peeing pit bull (which I always keep close to just in case he decides to chase them). ❤️
A film where Christophe Waltz hunts AI robots that look like humans and in one scene he presses them to enjoy cream with their strudel and the AI says "Strudel is not a starter. It's not a main course. It's in that mysterious middle ground" and then AI realizes it's been caught
