Quick update: I’m back in Japan for my B4 year ... With my lab work ramping up, I’ll be much less active here for a while. Prioritizing research for now — catch you all on the flip side 👩🎓

The Gaussian integral hides π in plain sight.
Start with ∫₀^∞ e^{-x²} dx. Square it, switch to polar coordinates, and the infinite plane becomes a simple radial integral. The angular part contributes 2π while the radial part collapses to 1, leaving exactly π/4.
Take the square root and the half-line integral equals √π / 2. One substitution turns an intractable product of exponentials into the most famous constant in mathematics.
Even the simplest bell curve knows the circle.
Beautiful visual representation of a classic topological object! The Hopf fibration bridges spatial geometry and pure math, beautifully showing how it emerges across quantum mechanics, field theory, and complex geometry 👇

The 3-sphere is assembled entirely from circles, one for every point of an ordinary sphere.
Each fiber is a circle. Stereographic projection sends them to ordinary circles in 3-space that never meet yet link exactly once. The red disk at the bottom is the fiber over one pole. The central torus gathers the fibers over a circle of latitude. Neighboring surfaces show adjacent families, all nested and interlocking.
Any two such circles form a Hopf link. The entire structure fills space without gaps or crossings once the fourth dimension is projected away.

Oh! I forgot to tell you, if by any chance, you are in the mood for (another) recommendation on logic, language, history and philosophy, you might be interested in this little book by Peter Geach titled ''Reference and Generality: An Examination of Some Medieval and Modern Theories''.
The title pretty describe the content of the book, a very quick read, which doesn't required the reader to be an expert, outside of having a beginner's basis in logic.
Geach has wrote quite a few interesting books such as a ''Providence and Evil'', ''Reason and Argument'' and ''History of the Corruptions of Logic''.

I will be ending this week by recommending a nice, short philosophical essay on mathematics, by the one and only, Yuri Manin, titled 'Truth as Value and Duty: Lessons of Mathematics''.
I think quite a few mathematicians, philosophers computer scientists and overall ''technical people'' need to read more of Yuri Manin, in my opinion, and this little essay is a good place to start!
Spot on. Math isn't about memorizing formulas ... it's a mental framework. Once you see it as a language to decode reality, everything else just clicks.

Learn math to think with brutal clarity. Learn math to spot bad arguments instantly. Learn math to model complex systems in your head. Learn math until the chaotic noise of modern life collapses into clean patterns.
You don't need a university degree.
You just need to stop viewing math as equations and start viewing it as stories.

Introduction to Financial Analysis by Kenneth S. Bigel (2022) is now in @ChapterPal's collection of open textbooks.
The book introduces financial analysis through the corporate context, connecting financial statements, capital structure, ratios, and forecasting to help students interpret how businesses fund assets and pursue profits.
Introduction to Financial Analysis has 197 pages, 183 illustrations, and 252 exercises.

Brute-force scaling and next-token prediction were an expensive dead end. JEPA’s results (109M outperforming 72B) prove that world modeling beats pure gigantism every time. Congrats @YannLeCun on this brilliant theoretical & practical proof.

Yann LeCun and Randall Balestriero just Proved the Platonic Representation Hypothesis, and found a better way to achieve it.
The Platonic Representation Hypothesis suggests that AI models trained on different modalities, like images and text, eventually learn similar representations of the world. But this paper shows that how models are trained matters more than simply scaling them up.
So they mathematically show that, under certain conditions, two JEPAs trained completely separately can learn essentially the same underlying representation of the world. One learns from different images of the same scene, while the other learns from different descriptions of that scene, without ever being trained on image-text pairs.
Their approach achieves the same image-text alignment with 42x fewer training samples than next-token prediction. A 109M-parameter text JEPA even outperforms LLMs up to 72B parameters on cross-modal alignment benchmarks.
