Our review examined vulvar pain disorders, pain symptoms, and associated vulvovaginal findings among patients with hypermobile Ehlers-Danlos syndrome (hEDS) and hypermobility spectrum disorder (HSD).

In our #slippingribsyndrome survey, only half of respondents with #endometriosis could always distinguish symptoms of the two conditions. These findings highlight the need for cross-specialty assessment. One diagnosis may not explain every symptom.
Consider the thoracic cage as part of a broader assessment of complex abdominal, pelvic, and genitopelvic pain. Increasing access to dynamic ultrasonography and individualized diagnostic evaluations may facilitate earlier recognition of #slippingribsyndrome
Our study of 79 people with #slippingribsyndrome highlights diagnostic delays and the need to better understand its potential connection to pelvic pain.

Tight hip flexors and pelvic floor muscles in young adults may signal an underlying structural issue. Consider evaluation for contributing hip and spine conditions.
Graduate school with a chronic condition means managing health alongside academic demands. Our review of 12 studies on doctoral students highlights barriers and inconsistent support. Accessibility and flexibility should be built in. What support helped you?
I’m excited to share findings from our study exploring a largely overlooked area of research: the potential intersection between #slippingribsyndrome (#SRS) and genitopelvic pain disorders, which will be coming out soon.
We examined self-reported outcomes of PFPT in people with #endometriosis before and after surgery. Findings suggest PFPT may offer limited benefit for some patients, depending on individual needs, and highlight the need for more individualized approaches
Love the feature here of our provider paper here, which is still in-press review.

I had encountered inauthentic #qualitative participation in my dissertation research. Read about my experience here:

My second dissertation aim (in-press) focused on understanding providers’ experiences caring for this complex patient population. We interviewed 14 U.S. providers, including pelvic floor physical therapists, OB/GYNs, and urologists.

All physicians are now faced with AI-informed patients who already researched their health problem, diagnostic tests and treatment for this problem. They come to us highly informed so we must match that - and not fight this with "Your Google search is not my MD" attitude.
People living with complex chronic conditions deserve informed medical care, appropriate mental health support, compassionate screening, and providers who take their physical and emotional distress seriously.

Sharing some projects I’m watching and that give me hope in Long COVID research over on my substack:

Slipping Rib Syndrome (#SRS) and Median Arcuate Ligament Syndrome (#MALS) can both cause upper abdominal/rib pain, but they’re very different conditions. Symptoms can overlap, which can make diagnosis challenging. instagram.com/p/DcpDHdbEQpx/

GLP-1 receptor agonists may have potential as a future treatment for #endometriosis, particularly because of their anti-inflammatory and immunometabolic effects rather than weight loss alone.
I passed my defense and earned my PhD in Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences from UTHealth Houston School of Public Health. #Ehlersdanlos #hypermobileEhlersDanlos #pelvicpain #vulvodynia #vulvarpain #Chronicpain #qualitativeresearch
#Hipdysplasia #FAI, and #labraltears can affect more than mobility. They may also interfere with sexual activity, positioning, comfort, and #functioning. We found that many patients reported improvement after hip surgery, but this remains overlooked!
