💬A brilliant session on support for First Time Buyers at @theSNP conference.
🏠This is of particular interest to me as a FTB, so was able to share with the panel my perspective and ask questions, but mainly stated more education is needed to understand the house buying process

Reinstating social housing investment ASAP, redrafting the housing bill to stop the exodus of investment for new build & seeing our 250,000 PRS landlords as the vital housing partners they are, balancing support and accountability are my top 3 to do’s

John Swinney urged by campaigners to wipe out housing cuts - Scotland’s deepening housing emergency is a national scandal & reversing the savage cut to the housing budget is vital to preventing record breaking h’ness numbers rising ever further dailyrecord.co.uk/news/polit…

Hearing @JohnSwinney & @_KateForbes state eradicating child poverty & stimulating the economy as top priority - music to my ears. Home is the foundation our children need. A new government = a new opportunity to put housing front & centre @S_A_Somerville @PaulMcLennan7

I’m 100% with @shelterscotland - as long as children live in temporary accommodation & overcrowded housing conditions, child poverty will persist. With quality housing, health, attainment, economic growth, everything lifts. As @SirTomhunter said - housing must be at the centre.

Thanks @lewis_goodall for this searing account of life in temporary accommodation.
Please keep covering the housing and homelessness crises, and giving a voice to those directly impacted.
This is not inevitable and there are political solutions.
NEW: Latest @TheNewsAgents Investigates - Britain’s hidden homeless children
Nearly 140,000 kids in Britain are now homeless, in so-called “temporary accommodation”. We went to a school where half of the kids don’t have a home to call their own.

It feels like a proper Skylight centre now! The signage recently went up at our new centre in Aldgate. Our new home was refurbished thanks in part to @PostcodeLottery players who've helped make it a welcoming place for people taking their first steps out of homelessness ❤️

It should not be govt policy to arrest people simply because they do not have a roof over their head. We would urge the Prime Minister @RishiSunak and the Home Secretary @JamesCleverly to listen to their colleagues calls and drop these punitive measures. bit.ly/3TIX8Zc

Annual rent increases in Scotland are higher than London, landlords selling = reducing supply, homelessness increasing inc rough sleeping in Scottish cities and @scotgov is in denial about impact of legislation. Absolutely predictable consequences. – at Glasgow, Scotland
There’s bad policy and then there is monumentally stupid policy. Rent controls are the latter. Naturally the Scottish government intends to impose rent controls and destroy the rented property sector.

Scotland hard on the heels here.
Rocketing use of temporary accommodation is bad for people and bad for local authority funds. It is caused by a shortage of settled housing options. Only more social housing will chart a course away from this in Scotland 🏘️🧭
