He had an official @memecoins Twitter account dating back to April 2013, before the coin even launched. The project was also linked to r/memecoins, a subreddit created in 2014 that still exists today. The coin used Anonymous-inspired imagery, and its developer later called for a revolution against scamcoins. But here's the craziest part. Back in 2013, the developer was literally calling garbage altcoins “Memecoins.” A term used to mock speculative cryptocurrencies would eventually become the name of an entire multibillion-dollar industry.
