What I love about this interaction in ME1 is that you the player receive the information from the orb as text. It's not some grand cinematic, you're meant to imagine the thing yourself. There's many moments like this in ME1, but 2 and 3 pivoted towards cutscenes.
Obtaining and using the Prothean trinket in Mass Effect 1 is a must for me on every playthrough.
After recieving the trinket from the Asari Consort on the Citadel, travel to the planet Eletania in the Hercules system and activate the ruins on the surface to unlock a Prothean recording that describes their observation of early humans on Earth tens of thousands of years prior.
If you do this, you'll even receive an email in Mass Effect 2 from the Asari who originally gave you the trinket, as well as a Galaxy News update that has been fixed in the Legendary Edition to properly reflect your decisions in her quest.
