I wonder if this picture might better sum up Mersons plight: mirror.co.uk/sport/football/… do #skybet not know his history? Or do they not care? Does #paulmerson have a choice in this sort of campaign? Hardly a good PR strategy, having an addict advertising the product

Top 4 measures to reduce online gambling harm. 1. Upfront age & ID verification (before gambling) 2. Upfront affordability checks (before gambling) to set spending limit as % of income. 3. Effective self exclusion system (taking account of point 1) 4. Ban on pre-watershed adverts

It is with great sadness I have resigned from one of the best jobs in Government. Thank you so much for all the very kind messages of support I have received throughout the day. Politicians come and go but principles stay with us forever.

My gambling commission has generated a comprehensive package of reforms that will be ready for Labour in government. Meanwhile we’ve got to keep up the pressure on this govt to make good on its promise and implement the £2 limit on FOBTs; and force them to look at our reforms.

Today I've announced the next Labour Govt will impose a "whistle to whistle" ban on betting ads during live sports broadcasts, outlaw debt-fuelled gambling with credit cards, and bring in a 1% levy on operators to pay for treatment of addicts.

Spent about £50 on myself today. Definitely would not have done that this time last year. I was too busy chasing losses. Although I did feel a bit weird spending that much today. However in the past I would have easily deposited £50 on a betting site

This time last year I was chasing my losses and losing a ridiculous amount of money. A year on and I’ve secured a first class degree
