Easily the funniest part about the NBA season is every single night there’s a not insignificant subset of fans whose team lost acting like the sky is falling. For six straight months. It’s incredible.

Anthony Edwards JJJ Kon Knueppel Paolo Banchero Jalen Suggs Jalen Williams Jalen Duren Cason Wallace Ivica Zubac Kawhi Leonard I'm sure I missed some. That doesn't even include guys who were already out (Coby, BI, DDV, Butler, KP, Moody, Strus). The season started a week ago.

Obviously injuries are gonna happen. But a serious discussion is probably going to be had about the relative speed the game is being played at, how much stress the modern game puts on the player's legs/joints, and potential solutions. Really wish we could just turn injuries off.

I truly don't think we're talking enough about what we're seeing from Ace Bailey. This guy was known as a bonafide hooper out of college, has been asked to be a super role player, and not only embraced it but is THRIVING in the role. Really impressive.
Seeing a lot of this and what I find most interesting about it is…we’ve already done this with Ace Bailey? Everybody wanted the Jazz to punt so they could watch number 1 option Ace. But look at him now? His defense+rebounding are well beyond expectations. Trust Will Hardy IMO

The type of sequence that has me really high on Houston. Sengun+shooters. Look how Jabari Smith leverages the open paint and attention paid to Reed Sheppard We know the Rockets can play big and bully opponents. Mixing this in gives them necessary variety.

Would be very curious to hear what @BiasedHouston thinks about the Rockets' roster versatility this year and how Ime Udoka could leverage it

Really nice summation here of eye test & impact metrics here 👇
the biggest difference between the public and analytics models on rating nba players is the public tends to value players more for 1v1 skills rather than 5v5 skills. In 1v1, you either have the ball or are guarding the ball. In 5v5, you are offball a lot on both ends, spacing, passing, rotating, reading passing lanes, boxing out and rebounding, and dealing with a much more cluttered and complicated game. it's a different set of skills. nevertheless, the eyetest tends to focus on the 1v1 skills in the 5v5 game, because that's where the ball is. of course, the 1v1 skills are very important in the 5v5 game, but there's another group of skills that shift the evaluation. so in JB's case, i think he's a top 15 1v1 player in the league, but ranks lower in 5v5, because he's not as strong in the 5v5 skills.

This is a first for me as an NBA fan lmao Jaylin Williams knocks over Isaiah Hartenstein going for the rebound and tries to help him up with the ball in his hands Only problem? IHart was laying out of bounds so touching him leads to a turnover

Check this out from Jonathan Kuminga Peyton Watson beats Anthony Edwards so Kuminga stays to cut off the drive. He acts like he's going to take the charge before adjusting to contest and stop the rim attempt Kuminga's been fantastic defensively tonight

I truly think a lot of people would rather see Darryn Peterson get 30 shots a game like Darius Acuff and the Jazz win 15 games for the entire season than try to play winning basketball. He’s on a team with two recent all-stars (JJJ, Lauri) and an upcoming rising star in Keyonte.

Things XJ and I found a way to introduce to this Lakers conversation: -why getting sacked should be negative fantasy points -Luka+Kessler=Vick+Gronk?? -What is the ceiling of Luka with +off-ball impact (he has 12 3pm off the catch through 3 games)? It all makes sense, I swear!

The NBA can be so cruel. The Suggs and JDub injuries happened within minutes of each other. Two really good players for two teams who had high hopes looking ahead. Both the player’s and team’s trajectories completely altered. Brutal.
