Thank you, Swift! ❤️
Though the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory's mission is at an end, its legacy and extensive collection of data will remain.
Swift's discoveries, and the work completed in tandem with Hubble, advanced astrophysics in so many ways. Learn more ⬇️
Science operations for our Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory have now ended.
With the spacecraft orbiting less than 171 miles (275 kilometers) above Earth, atmospheric drag prevents the satellite’s telescopes from steadily gazing at their cosmic targets. 🧵

ALT This cartoon of the Swift observatory shows it pointing at a target in the sky. Against a black background, the Swift spacecraft has a boxy grey body with long blue solar panels extended on each side and a yellow triangular section pointed out into space. Swift is pointing toward a star on the left that is marked with a triangular pink flag on a blue pole and surrounded by four pink L-shaped brackets. There are five additional targets across the image, three with a blue checkmark above them indicating that Swift has already observed them. Texas is getting a grid upgrade thanks to @POTUS! 🇺🇸⚡️
@SecretaryWright: “These funds are allocated with a focus on making the electrical grid more resilient…just focusing on common sense, making energy more robust."
🇺🇸👏
Today, @SecretaryWright announced new investments to strengthen America's power grid and lower electricity costs! 🇺🇸
Microreactors can strengthen America’s energy resilience by delivering reliable power to military installations, remote communities, and disaster-stricken areas when traditional infrastructure is unavailable.
Advancing next-generation nuclear technologies is critical to securing America’s energy future.
Did you know microreactors could one day be used to power military bases, disaster recovery efforts, or remote locations where traditional infrastructure doesn’t exist? Learn more about microreactors ⬇️

Sometimes one extraordinary view is all it takes to remind us how incredible spaceflight is, and how much we still have to explore.
This morning’s “space jellyfish” gave people across the East Coast a reason to look up as @SpaceX launched science and supplies to the @Space_Station for @NASA. Hopefully it inspired a few to keep looking up!
These incredible photos from the ground and from space capture the launch of SpaceX CRS-35. Expedition 75 eagerly awaits its arrival, carrying important science to help further our ambitious goals of space exploration as well as critical hardware for extending the life of @Space_Station which will be used in future spacewalks.
