Most “gamespeed” drills are just agility with a ball. Next week we are running a practical evening on designing drills with intent: who they’re for, what success looks like, and the decisions that matter. collaboratesports.com/worksh…

When coaches in our group started comparing their fastest athletes with their most effective ones... 😕 They weren’t always the same people 😕 Some of the quickest sprinters were still a step behind the play So where do you think the biggest opportunity is?

When a coach showed us the programme he’d spent hours perfecting... 😕 It was brilliant on paper 😕 It just didn’t survive contact with a real week 🎯 The better programme was the one we got the athletes to actually complete. Simple and done, or perfect and planned?

When a coach I supported flagged an athlete as “below standard”... I challenged him with "Are they?" 😕 The standard came from research... 😕 The comparison was against a different demographic... 😕 No comparisons were made to her peers... Where do you stand? 👇

Another reason I built Collaborate 360 the way it's shaping up to be: built to put your actual decisions in front of people who’ll challenge them. All set in a safe space for exploration, and a low-pressure environment to prevent you from holding back from brave decisions.

Coaches make more than fifty decisions a day. Programme changes, calls for appropriate loading, which exercises to keep in, and which ones to remove! How many of those do you find making alone? So, how many are you sure are the right call?

Love it - and add in the conflicting or competing demands of the sport too - that is often dismissed or ignored in planning too.

The plyo/false step is a key foundational pillar for Tim Kettenring as we discuss on this weeks podcast episode! The research suggests it favours the stretch shortening cycle to result in greater first step quickness. Comment ‘pod’ and I’ll send over paper and episode links!

A keynote gives you insight. It almost never gives you practice using it. You leave with 20 ideas and no mechanism to try any of them before the flight home.

We coach athletes through deliberate practice, feedback loops, and challenge. Then we sit behind a laptop to develop our craft, or take the back-row seats at a conference and call it CPD. Something doesn't add up if you are a coach.
