Very sad to hear of the passing of Ron Duguay. He had a solid career as a Ranger and was a far better player than his Ooo-La-La Sasson image might lead you to believe. He was one of the last players in the NHL instantly recognizable thanks to his flowing hair before helmets were made mandatory, but again, he was far more substance than style. RIP.

What a production! Once again, MSG puts on a spectacular and memorable show. For those of us old enough to remember the beloved first two Knicks championship teams, seeing Clyde, Dollar Bill, Earl the Pearl, plus Dave DeBuscherre’s son and Willis Reed’s wife hand out the rings was quite emotional and I’m not ashamed to say brought a tear or two to the eyes.

That was one of my favorite days in all the years I spent with the Islanders. For whatever the reason(s) it hadn’t happened earlier, it was a thrill to see the unbridled joy on the face of this great, great player and terrific person who I am happy to count among my friends. I was particularly proud to emcee that event which was one of many terrific memories from a thoroughly enjoyable season. Of course, we all could have done without the cold showers in our Toronto hotel rooms on the morning of game 7 of that season’s playoff series with the Leafs. I’m sure it was just a coincidence.
Matthew Schaefer is not the first #Isles kid to win the Calder while living with a Long Island family. When his No. 19 was retired 25 years ago today, Bryan Trottier told me about the impact of the Amendolas on his rookie season. We revisit the story. islesfix.com/p/before-schaef…

Unpacking old stuff after a move can really take you back. This is the cover of my 11th grade notebook from April, 1971 after the Rangers beat the Maple Leafs to advance to the Stanley Cup semifinals vs. the Black Hawks. First year I was a season ticket holder. Will never get over that 7th game in Chicago. Ever.

Today (10/16) in 1969 still stands as one of the most incredible days in sports history. The ‘69 Miracle won the World Series & all of our lives changed. Thanks to all who continue to keep the memory of that team alive!!

If you’re too young to remember and don’t understand the transcendent significance of the 1969 Mets, there are plenty of great books which will educate you. @ArtShamsky’s “After the Miracle” and @wr_coffey’s “They Said It Couldn’t Be Done” are two fairly recent ones. 57 years ago today at 3:17 PM, EST, Cleon Jones perfectly choreographed the conclusion to The Greatest New York Sports Story Ever Told. Happy Anniversary to the 1969 World Champion New York Mets.
10/16/1969 The New York Mets beat the Baltimore Orioles to win their first World Series championship.

By the way, just my opinion, but I think that Brian Anderson is the most underrated play by play broadcaster on national sports television.

Believe me, I understand why it’s an anomaly and business is business, but even if it’s just for old times sake, there’s something really cool about post season baseball during the day. Beautiful afternoon in Cleveland.

The ball barely made it through the infield and Willie barely made it to first base, but just keep your eyes focused on pitcher Rollie Fingers. Classic.
10/14/1973 The Mets break a 6-6 tie in the 12th with four two-out runs. Willie Mays records his last hit, an RBI single, and New York scores three more on two errors by Mike Andrews. The Mets win 10-7, tying the World Series at one game apiece.

The “Agee” game. When I came home from school that day, the first thing I said to my Dad was, “I don’t want to hear anymore about Joe DiMaggio. The name is Agee. Tommie Agee!” Ah, the innocence of youth.
10/14/1969 In the first World Series at-bat by a Met at Shea Stadium, Tommie Agee homers off Jim Palmer. In the field, Agee makes two incredible catches to save five runs from crossing the plate as New York beats Baltimore 5-0.

I think that was the last time I saw Frank smile. Theirs was a tempestuous relationship.
October 13, 1983: Davey Johnson is introduced at a press conference as @Mets manager, the 11th in franchise history. He would go on to win 595 games and a World Series title in 1986. Never short on confidence, Johnson thanked Frank Cashen for “being smart enough to hire me." #LGM

Guy was a good man. A baseball lifer with great stories. His wife actually was instrumental in helping Pedro Martinez learn to read and speak English when Pedro was a youngster in the Dodgers system. RIP.
We lost a good one today. Guy Conti our former bullpen coach and special adviser passed away after a lengthy illness. Guy was a friend of Sandy Koufax and beloved by Pedro Martínez. No one had more stories than Guy. His knowledge reached people for decades. Miss you my friend.

My Mom would have been 102 years old today. She gave me the greatest gift a parent could provide-unwavering confidence and the belief that her kids could accomplish whatever they put their minds to as long as they were willing to put in the necessary work. She made enormous sacrifices for her family which can never be repaid. Happy Birthday, Mom. I love you.

This is a truly heartwarming story, and knowing Jon Ledecky and others in the Islanders organization, not surprising at all. It speaks to the power that sports teams have to reach into their communities to enrich (and even save) a life through nothing much more than basic kindness and integration with their fan base. I’ve seen this during my time with the Mets and Rangers as well, and I’m sure that all of our local teams are similarly invested. It’s just reassuring to read a “nice” story every once in a while. Congratulations on your recovery, Tommy. Stay strong. nypost.com/2026/10/12/sports…

Ethan Wilson is a Mets treasure. He works tirelessly on behalf of the organization as the team’s Executive Director of Media Relations, bringing fans a bit closer to the players via myriad stories and initiatives and has been with the Mets, including his internship, for more than a quarter century. He is universally beloved by all who work with him, and although he is largely an anonymous figure to the fan base, he is a Citi Field superstar; a branch on the Jay Horwitz tree. He is recovering from major surgery with the hope and expectation that he will be back at his desk before long, but in the meantime, please keep him in your prayers. We all need him back as soon as possible. Much love, E.
