🇺🇦 🇺🇲 The confrontation inside Trump's Ukraine peace negotiations is now coming into focus.
Le Monde reports that Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner spent nearly three hours pitching Ukraine's presidential chief of staff, Kyrylo Budanov, a postwar economic arrangement built around restoring Russian oil and gas flows to Europe through Ukrainian pipelines.
The meeting took place on October 9 at the Shell Bay golf club in Florida.
Witkoff presented the proposal as a regional prosperity plan: Ukraine would collect transit revenues, Europe would receive cheaper energy, and Russia would regain access to commercial routes disrupted by the war.
Budanov saw something fundamentally different. According to a witness cited by Le Monde, he objected that the arrangement would recreate Ukraine's dependence on Moscow.
“Our model is not Belarus, but Poland!” he reportedly replied.
The meeting was interrupted, and Budanov called Zelensky.
When talks resumed, news arrived that Trump had announced a separate agreement with Putin involving Russian diesel. Le Monde reports that an irritated Witkoff then demanded that the Ukrainians accept the arrangement and stop striking Russian oil refineries, arguing that the attacks endangered the wider world.
A source familiar with the Ukrainian delegation described its members as exceptionally distressed by the encounter.
The account adds a revealing dimension to the commercial negotiations we have been tracking. The proposed Lukoil asset sale, Novatek's involvement in an Alaska LNG venture, the broader US-Russia list of business opportunities reported by the Financial Times, and now the proposed restoration of Russian energy transit through Ukraine all point to the prominence of energy deals in Washington's diplomatic approach.
These are separate proposals, with different participants and legal circumstances. But Le Monde's reporting exposes the strategic disagreement underlying them.
For Witkoff, restoring commercial flows appears to be part of the mechanism for producing a peace settlement. For Budanov, according to the account, those same flows threaten to restore Moscow's economic leverage over Ukraine.
The reported exchange also raises a question about sequencing: why was Kyiv being pressed to stop attacking Russian refineries while Russia continued striking Ukrainian energy infrastructure?
Le Monde's reconstruction relies on accounts of a private meeting. The reported exchanges have not been independently confirmed by the participants.

Trump, Musk, Witless and Kushner would rather add a dollar to their already huge bank accounts than preserve lives like Borys.
🕯️ 🇺🇦Ukraine has lost Borys Hora, a legendary traveler, cave explorer, and founder of the “Krystal” tourism club in Ternopil Oblast, who volunteered to defend his country.
For decades, he introduced people to the beauty of the underground world, organized rafting trips along the Dniester River, and led mountain expeditions. On October 19, his life was cut short by the war.
His family, fellow soldiers, and friends remember Borys as a one-of-a-kind person who inspired others with his energy, courage, and love of nature.
May his memory live on. 🕯️
The US under trump wants to steal Ukraine’s nuclear power. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask.

BONUS: The most geopolitically sensitive proposals include a potential American role in Alaska LNG infrastructure involving Russian assets and a third-party management arrangement for Ukraine’s Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant, with electricity shared between Ukraine and Russia, according to the officials.
The proposals are not necessarily final agreements.
100 ballistic missiles against a city full of civilians.
And we allow it.
I’m so ashamed.
This year, Ukraine’s positions on the front remain stronger than they have been in a long time during this war. If our partners’ support for Ukraine remained just as strong – particularly when it comes to Patriots and other air defense capabilities – Ukraine would be in a much better position diplomatically as well. Just now, in October alone – since October 14 – there have already been several Russian ballistic missile attacks. Essentially, in two weeks, more than 100 ballistic missiles have been launched against Kyiv and the region. Unfortunately, there are significant restrictions on supplies, with air defense packages being delayed. I want to thank all our partners who provide their support on time.

"There’s no news about Patriot missiles, and frankly, nobody is even asking about production licenses for them anymore.
Interestingly enough, we were never granted licenses to produce these missiles because our "partners" in the US fear that if we scale up production, a bunch of countries will no longer depend on the US—and they can't let that happen at any cost!
Someone is terrified for their profits, while we're over here fearing for our lives.
Such is life." - Popular Ukrainian Blogger Associated with Air Defense's Vanek.
i am enjoying President Zelenskyy's "telling it like it is" era.
they will never reach Ukrainian soil.
and the Red Cross will help send them to the devil.
like they did in Mariupol.
Residents of occupied #Oleshky are set to be evacuated through #Crimea
The route will be determined by the #ruZZian side, with people transported by buses and ambulances.
Once they reach Ukrainian-controlled territory, evacuees are promised accommodation and medical examinations. Men of conscription age will be given up to three months to sort out their documents.
Honestly, I don’t trust this so-called evacuation. They wouldn’t let people leave before, and now suddenly #ruZZia is showing an act of mercy? 🤨
👇 important for fellas to know.
No orc conscripts in Ukraine.
