Otherworldly!
A huge mass of dying ice spread out in a high-alpine desert. There's no way to recover for this #glacier. And it's mid-October, warm air, not the least snow cover.
One third of this year's mass loss occurred after 5 Sept. This is highly unusual.

For me, the Nobel Prize (or, as it is less commonly known, the scheme of a weapons manufacturer and salesman to improve his reputation) stands for something science has to get rid of: Awards. Science is an incremental, collaborative effort; awards for specific people is nonsense.

I have been thinking about this tweet during 1 more sleepless night. "We need to act like the cavalry is not coming." - I can't think of truer words. This is true for all of us, everywhere, right now, and for coming years. What does it mean to act like the cavalry is not coming?
By the way, this freakin NYC Mayor- his lack of planning, notice or prep for extreme weather events poses a real threat - we invite you to @UPROSE to join in our climate adaptation planning because we need to act like the cavalry is not coming 🌻 #climatechange

Two (!) years of #glacier retreat on Rhonegletscher. Not just a bit of "normal" ice melting but the two most disastrous years for Swiss glaciers in history.
