NATO's largest-ever exercises are underway near the borders with Russia and Belarus
An important clarification: these are the largest-ever brigade deployment exercises, not the largest NATO exercises overall.
Around 3,000 military personnel and 1,000 pieces of military equipment are currently deployed in eastern Latvia.
The units are practising redeployment, logistics, command and control, and communications.
The exercises began on October 26 and will run until November 8, after which the troops will return to their bases.

🤯 Crowd tries to storm a building near Kyiv amid rumors that dozens of people are being held captive inside
A crowd gathered in Petropavlivska Borshchahivka following reports that armed men were allegedly torturing people in the basement of a building.
However, law enforcement sources told TSN that reports of a mass hostage situation were false. According to them, only one person is inside the building — reportedly a soldier who went AWOL.
Meanwhile, tensions outside the building have escalated. Local Telegram channels report clashes at the gates and the use of tear gas. Eyewitnesses also claim that people attempting to enter the premises were sprayed with an unknown substance resembling expanding construction foam.
The circumstances of the clashes have not yet been officially confirmed.

🇵🇱 A major political crisis is unfolding in Poland — here's what's happening
A fierce battle over the Constitutional Tribunal is underway. Judge Anna Korwin-Piotrowska announced the suspension of its president, Bogdan Święczkowski, and his deputy. The ousted president then reportedly tried to enter the building with representatives of right-wing opposition parties, using a crowbar and an angle grinder.
Later, President Karol Nawrocki joined the confrontation after turning his plane around and cancelling a visit to Senegal.
The Polish president, who took part in mass fights between football hooligans in his youth, forced his way into the Tribunal building with his security team, pushing aside even the court's new acting head, Judge Korwin-Piotrowska.
The opposition Law and Justice (PiS) party called the events an attempted coup d'état.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk, meanwhile, said he was restoring the rule of law after years of abuses by the previous government.
The dispute over judicial appointments has been going on for a decade, dating back to when the then-ruling coalition led by Jarosław Kaczyński's party attempted to introduce reforms that drew fierce criticism both in Poland and across the EU.
#Philippines: 0:17...Mayon volcano erupts...
A massive plume of ash rose above Mayon Volcano in the Philippines on Friday as an eruption prompted authorities to raise the volcanic alert level and order evacuations.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology raised the alert status to Level 3 on a five-level scale, warning of increased volcanic activity and the potential for more dangerous eruptions.
Residents within the volcano's 3.7-mile Permanent Danger Zone were urged to evacuate immediately due to the threat of lava flows and fast-moving currents of hot gas, ash and volcanic debris.
