Shouting from the rooftops: nominate candidates who are from - and have won in - working class communities.
Even Maine's most rural, deep-red towns swung for Troy Jackson last night. Hard. #MESEN Explore the data: pressherald.com/2026/11/04/h…

Perhaps my favorite front page in the country today. @TroyJackson207 is going to be a phenomenal senator and pulled off beating the toughest Republican incumbent in just 101 days.
Early print deadlines meant we had to wait but here’s today’s @bangordailynews

For over 30 years, Susan Collins has been feeding Mainers her table scraps, and now she’s mad that instead of thanking her for them, working people chose to take her seat at the table. Even in defeat, her arrogance is astounding.
Senator Susan Collins to The New York Times after losing re-election: “Everybody ignores the fact that I voted to convict him in the second impeachment trial,” Ms. Collins said. “What bigger break could there be? It is never enough. I want results and they want angry rhetoric.” nytimes.com/2026/11/04/us/po…

This @BostonGlobe write up captures how @TroyJackson207 was able to defeat a 30-year, seemingly unbeatable incumbent.

Anyone who wants to use Troy Jackson as one of their examples of "underperformance" to suit their point of view (I've seen it from left and establishment) should probably factor this into it:

Lot of crazy numbers out there but a few that have caught my eye among voters of color who moved DRAMATICALLY: In the most Latino county in the country (Webb County), After Trump won it by 3, Talarico won by 47(!!!). Better than Obama did there in two tries.

What is the point of a politician — let alone a literal vice president — who says he understood all of this and yet did absolutely nothing about it
One of the things the data analysts on our side obsessed over was "composition"—whether the electorate looked close enough to 2024 for Republicans to win. And despite polls that showed a Democrat blowout, the data kept on telling us the same story: in some states turnout was merely OK, in other states it was downright amazing, and in no state was it catastrophic. There was a genuine sense of optimism on our team: our people were showing up. So, I asked the smartest data guy I know, does that mean we're going to shock the world? "No," he told me. "We might do better than the polls suggest. But the data is telling us that a lot of Trump/Vance 2024 voters are pissed and planning to vote for the other guys. Our voters are turning out, but they may not vote for us." Well, that looks prophetic now. Our voters did show up. In Florida, for example, the electorate was 9 points more Republican than Democrat, just a couple points worse than 2024. Undoubtedly there were places we could have done better on turnout. But the main problem is not turnout. The main problem is that many people who voted for Trump/Vance in 2024 voted for Democrats in 2026. There will be a lot of infighting and arguing over what happened and why that is. One of the pollsters I really respect told me that our economic messaging wasn’t sharp enough down the stretch. I’m sure that’s true. But the real reason we lost is obvious to almost everyone. Another pollster—one of the smartest people I know in politics, told me yesterday we’d lose the generic ballot by 13 points. I felt negative going into Tuesday, but even I was shocked by this. In his polling, he saw that a lot of Trump 2024 voters were angry and planning to vote for Democrats. He asked those voters who had abandoned us what would cause them to come back on our team. The top four answers, accounting for nearly all of the responses were: 1) End the war 2) Focus on cost of living/inflation 3) Put America First 4) Change our relationship to Israel Our voters showed up. And the above four reasons are why many of them voted for Democrats. This is according to a pollster who nailed the results. While many spent Monday attacking Rachel Campos Duffy for calling for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict, it turns out her political advice was sound. (She’s also a great person.) In the next few months, there's going to be a lot of gaslighting. Expect to hear any number of establishment politicians say the solution to our woes is amnesty. I'm open to the idea that we should change enforcement—by focusing more on businesses that hire illegal labor, for instance. But anyone pushing amnesty is lying to you. The reason we lost is the war. The president himself said so last night. If you'd like to argue it was worth it, that losing the Senate for the next 6 years was worth it, then do so. Argue it was a worthwhile cost to pay. Agree or disagree, that's at least honest. But everyone knows why we lost. And any honest conversation about where we go from here must start there. I remain hopeful about our country. To the people who are pissed off and want to say, “I told you so”: you’re right, you did tell us so. Take that energy into electing Republicans who share your worldview. To the people who are just pissed at the results, you should be. Let’s take that anger and get back to the work of saving our country.

Team collins crash out continues
Bill Green, a beloved retired newscaster in Maine, cut an ad for Susan Collins saying that "Troy doesn't have the tools he needs." The Jackson campaign has mocked the ad mercilessly. Over the phone, Green told me he thinks Jackson is controlled by the D.S.A. “He’s a bumpkin. I wish I hadn’t said that. But he is. He’s not an intelligent guy.” More here: newyorker.com/live/news/elec…

Building a 36-person campaign team in 100 days takes a lot. Huge credit to our kickass CM @HilaryBarrett91 for everything she put into this. Simultaneously, the Maine Democratic Coordinated Campaign, led by the fearless @kaylavanw, scaled up to 46 full-time staff. A huge feat.

And yet, every R senator like @SenSusanCollins ultimately stands with him. Voters are sick of this. We’ll see just how sick of it they are tonight.
In fact, the most coherent proposal presented by Trump this year was straight bribery. Or, to be more creative in the Chicago spirit, ex post facto walking-around money. What else to call the president’s September stunner, which caught the ostensible GOP congressional leaders by surprise, that if Republicans retained power they’d dust off every American adult with $5,000. Vote GOP, and you can get your beak wet — not exactly from the Adam Smith canon, was it? The only actual consistent message the rest of the fall from the office of Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln is that Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) has a nice ass.

This has been a fun one. A super scrappy and talented team, led by @HilaryBarrett91 @DanGottlieb_ #Stretch and many more, that put together a hell of a campaign in an unprecedented situation. Time to run through the tape.
If I was Susan Collins, I’d be worried too. Good thing my name is Troy Jackson. GO VOTE.

I cannot wait to elect this man to the United States Senate today.
There's always money for bombs. There's always money for income tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans. But there's never any money for everyday people. Susan Collins says she's "Our Senator" — but there’s no one in my life who feels that way. It’s our time, Maine. Get to the polls to vote her out today.
