Not every AI decision on your 2027 list is equally urgent, and treating them that way costs you the ones moving fastest. IDC predicts most build-your-own agentic AI projects will be abandoned by 2028 after missing ROI goals. That window is nearly closed. IDC’s Rick Villars sorts the FutureScape Top 10 Worldwide Predictions into closing, open, and emerging, so you leave with a ranked list for your leadership team. 24.7% of buyers are done waiting. If the next release doesn’t bring real agentic features, they’re switching vendors. IDC’s Eric Newmark says that’s the actual story the “SaaSpocalypse” narrative keeps missing: agents need the governed data and process layer inside SaaS to do anything at all. Readiness just became the price of staying visible, and buyers already have the leverage to make vendors prove it. Read the full IDC blog: bit.ly/47ll8Jb #SaaS #AgenticAI #IDCResearch

AI agents are set to grow 78x by 2029. 40% of organizations are still expected to miss their 2026 AI goals anyway. Speed alone was never the problem. IDC's Dave McKenna says relying on vendor-supplied data has the same blind spot as a student grading their own test. His fix: ground every decision in verified, independent evidence. He reviews IDC Quanta for Tech Leaders against four tests he’d apply to any tool he’d actually approve. The full story here: bit.ly/4ybVWjp #IDCQuanta #IDCAIPlatform #EmbeddedIntelligence

Why have 80% of organizations started deploying agentic AI, yet only 17% use it enterprise-wide? IDC's Laurie Buczek says it's very hard to govern, and hard to establish trust in what the technology can do. For vendors, that makes governance part of the sales conversation. How to raise it before the buyer does: bit.ly/4BkmbXF #AgenticAI #EnterpriseAI

AI maturity scores are quickly becoming board-level currency for CIOs, CTOs, CISOs, and procurement leaders. They back up vendor bets and AI budget asks, and the case for where investment goes next. IDC’s benchmark scores organizations on strategy, governance, people, and technology, across five stages from Ad Hoc to Optimized. Of the 1,900 organizations surveyed, 3.1% reached Optimized. The self-assessment takes 2 minutes, and gives you a direction read on your stage of AI maturity. Take it here: bit.ly/3TTeJ4T #IDCQuanta ##AIMaturity #AIStrategy

2.5 billion AI agents by 2030. A 45 GW U.S. power shortfall by 2028. That’s the gap IDC sees in AI right now. Demand is compounding: 95.3% of enterprises already run at least one agent workflow in production, and total token delivery costs are forecast to rise 487-fold by 2030. Supply can’t keep up. Memory, power, and packaging shortages will set the pace of growth through 2027, with memory tight into 2028. Meredith Whalen breaks down the data, plus the four signals that would change IDC’s view. Six in ten organizations say AI is transforming their business. IDC checked that claim against 1,900 organizations’ actual capabilities, and only 15.1% of the self-proclaimed “Thrivers” had the scores to back it up. A recent IDC blog puts it plainly, citing IDC’s Andrea Siviero: strategy is the easiest dimension to declare and the hardest to deliver at scale. Technology is the least mature dimension across the board, and even the strongest-performing area, governance, still leaves 57.2% of all organizations in its two least mature stages. In 2024, IDC predicted that 75% of organizations would use specialized accelerated cloud services for AI by 2026. Did it play out as expected? Dave McCarthy, Group VP of Cloud and Data Center Infrastructure, says the direction held, with two differences. Data privacy concerns pushed some AI work into private cloud instead of public cloud, and more companies entered the market, so it’s no longer just the three hyperscalers. He also says the 75% number still stands and may run a little low: idc.com/resource-center/blog… #CloudComputing #AIInfrastructure #ProofBehindThePredictions

IDC’s Worldwide AI Maturity score rose from 2.39 to 2.43 in a year, while the share of organizations at the optimized stage went from 0.4% to 3.1%. 49.6% of the 1,900 organizations surveyed sit at opportunistic, with pockets of experimentation that aren’t coordinated across teams. Another 25.8% are repeatable: consistent processes in some teams, not yet organization-wide. Andrew Shipe’s team at Sourcewell Ventures doesn’t have a shortage of ideas. It has a shortage of hours to research them, and every idea has to earn its place fast. When agencies kept saying drone first-responder programs were “too expensive” with no specifics, Shipe used IDC Quanta to put real numbers behind the complaint, turning a vague pain point into a problem his team could actually plan around. IDC tracked 66 open language models released in 2024 alone, with 34 more in a single quarter of 2025. Most enterprises are now running five or more models across different teams, and no one outside the AI group can name all of them with confidence. A recent IDC blog says that’s a governance problem being handled like a procurement one. The fix: a named owner for the model portfolio, not just approval at kickoff. How do you scale agentic AI without the risk scaling right along with it? Autonomous decision-making is unlocking real enterprise innovation, but managing the risk that comes with it is the harder part. IDC’s Shari Lava takes that on at the IDC AI & Data Summit Dallas, covering how leading organizations are scaling agentic AI past the pilot stage, where the biggest risks sit, and what it takes to build trust into autonomous systems. 📍 Renaissance Dallas Hotel 📅 December 3, 2026 👉 Register now: bit.ly/4e97bBQ #IDCAIandDataSummit #IDCEvents #AILeadership

For the first time in thirty years, enterprise software vendors don’t control their own front doors, and most of them just agreed to it voluntarily. IDC’s Eric Newmark says Salesforce handing its interface to Claude, Slack, and a dedicated coworker agent is the opening move in a much bigger fight: who becomes the landlord of agentic work. Microsoft, Slack, Claude, ChatGPT, and now Meta are all competing for that real estate. His read: the next platform war won’t be won by whoever builds the best agent, but by whoever controls where humans and agents actually meet. IDC forecasts worldwide security spend at $310.42B in 2026, up 13.2% from 2025. Among 492 CEOs surveyed in February 2026, cybersecurity is still the highest-ranked anticipated technology risk, ahead of AI. Bigger budgets haven’t made tech leaders feel safer. IDC research points to an evidence gap, not a budget gap. The new IDC Quanta Insights Report shows where the gap sits and closes with three questions to ask before your next budget decision: bit.ly/4jiilHW #IDCQuanta #IDCAIPlatform #EmbeddedIntelligence
