In 2023, the @IMLLeague introduced the Civility Pledge to encourage open, honest and transparent communication among local officials. The goal is to restore civility in government, build trust and strengthen relationships. IML offers a model resolution, an individual pledge and council/board pledge - all available at iml.org/civility.

Today, @IMLLeague brought stakeholders together to discuss Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) reform, including response timelines, cost recovery and resolving disputes before litigation. IML also shared findings from its statewide municipal FOIA survey, which received 717 responses, and feedback on proposed reforms to preserve transparency while addressing municipal challenges.
