Kayla had 99% signed to the UFC in 2021, but Julie beating Nunes at 269 caused them to pull the offer. It explains the broadcast showing Kayla in the crowd (something they never do for non UFC fighters) and Kayla's reaction after the fight.
I always get bothered by the "Ronda only fought cans" narrative. Tate, McMann, Kaufman, Carmouche and Budd are all very good wins, plus Davis, D'Alelio and Zingano who all dominated Nunes.
The problem is people see Bethe and think all of Ronda's opponents were like that.
It’s ironic that years after it was supposed to happen I’d STILL have Chandler as the frontrunner for that fight. He’s the highest profile opponent this version of McGregor still has a chance of beating.

Is anyone else bothered with the double standards? Makhachev and Kayla are allowed the extra months to get ready but the likes of Shev aren’t?
It should be the same rules for everyone. Not pick and choose depending on necessity.

Given how badly the UFC treats its B-markets, expect this to main event.
Islam Makhachev vs Carlos Prates is no longer the target to headline UFC 336 in Toronto, per sources.
That was originally the hope/plan, but I’m told the UFC is looking elsewhere now. Date doesn’t work for Makhachev anymore. Unclear why.

Crazy that the UFC's decision making has lead to a (genuine) question from a media member at a press conference as to whether an undefeated UFC title challenger could be cut.
I’ve only just realised the main reason Volk’s fighting this weekend is so the UFC can tie his fight into his Street Fighter appearance.

I know Evloev’s lack of finishes is a meme, but a fighter continuously winning, beating every other viable contender and leaving the UFC with NO OPTION BUT THEM is honestly commendable. There’s very little meritocracy in modern MMA, Evloev’s title shot is a rare example of it.
So seeing as the UFC now seems to be cutting fighters that go to a decision one to many times here's all of Movsar Evloev's highlight reel finishes that led to him getting a title shot against Volkanovski at #UFC333
