Education transformed my family’s story.
Scotland's education system was once among the best in the world, and I believe it can be again. That’s what we should be aiming for.

All young people deserve support to reach their potential, whatever their background.
At FARE-Scotland in Easterhouse, local people worked with employers to build tailored routes into work. It worked.
Devolve power out from Westminster and Holyrood to local leaders who know their communities best.👇

Andy Burnham is putting problem solving over point scoring.
That's what the people of Scotland deserve. That's what everyone across our United Kingdom deserves.
The SNP centralise so they can control. They starve councils of money so they can control.
They block regional partnerships so they can control.
Let’s stop this nonsense and unleash the potential of our Scottish regions by empowering them.
We do that by working together.
"My message to John is simple, I want to push economic power out into the regions of Scotland, do you?"

I spoke to @bbc5live about the speech that Andy Burnham will be making in Lanarkshire today.
He’ll invite John Swinney and the Scottish Government to work with us to push power out of Holyrood and Westminster, and closer to people. We can work together on a new shared mission.

If Scotland’s regions had grown at Manchester’s pace over the past decade, our economy would be £30bn larger.
We need to put power over skills and growth into the hands of local communities.

The SNP Scottish Government continues to short change local councils and local services. Edinburgh is hit particularly hard.

These GDP figures are welcome news.
Despite conflicts in the Middle East and Europe hitting people across the world, today’s figures offer more proof of Britain’s resilience in the face of these global shocks.
GDP grew 0.7% in the three months to August 2026, following revised growth of 0.5% in the three months to July.
Services grew (+0.9%) while production (-0.2%) and construction (-1.0%) both fell.

Second, something way too often missed by commentators: the UK is doing more than anyone else in G7 to strengthen our public finances. We are delivering the fastest fiscal consolidation in the G7 and forecast to have the smallest deficit in 2031

New IMF forecasts tell you 2 things about UK economy. Firstly, the British economy has proved resilient in face of the Iran conflict: IMF have UK growth as joint second fastest in G7 this year (forget forecasts, in hard data we’ve seen the fastest growth in G7 so far this year)

Yesterday, Holborn and St Pancras voted for hope.
Congratulations @Sagal_AW and the whole team on a fantastic campaign. Looking forward to working together!

Devastating analysis of John Swinney’s pension lies from David Phillips of the IFS. By rights, Swinney should be finished. But this is Scotland, so he’ll be absolutely fine.
Resolving our manifesto commitment to touring artists in the EU would be hugely beneficial to the UK and our EU partners.

EXCLUSIVE: John Swinney’s ‘misleading’ pension claims DEBUNKED as expert tears apart bogus SNP case
Institute for Fiscal Studies' David Phillips says the FM is misleading Scots and 'wrong' on pensions
It's a damning indictment of this sorry saga.

Scottish social care is on its knees. What the SNP are effectively saying is that the extra money they’ll receive as a result of this will not be spent on social care. A system that pensioners rely on.
They’ve no interest in solutions just manufactured grievance and lies..
Andy Burnham's latest plan? Bring in Free Personal Care in England, and make all UK pensioners pay for it - even though Scots already have Free Personal Care.

The Scottish government & First Minister authoring a post truth politics to create division.
The only conclusion possible is that the FMs new political strategy is to promote himself as a liar, a deceiver and someone unwilling to work with others for the good of the country
Replying to @ChrisMusson
Here's the Scottish Government response to Labour writing to them and saying John Swinney's claims - including his claim that people will lose their pensions - are inaccurate. The response avoids specifics but doubles down.
Post-truth politics, paid for by taxpayers.
