I didn't realize this until late in my career:
Find a company that's value aligned with you.
My values include:
- Build with customers
- Have high standards for quality and craft
- Take ownership and sweat the details
These values may sound obvious but there are many companies where:
- It takes forever to talk to customers
- Metrics matter more than craft
- Your "job description" matters more than getting shit done
So reflect on your own values and find the best environment to showcase them.
