ALT Our spotlight for this month is 𝐆𝐰𝐲𝐧𝐧𝐞 𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐥. She is the president and chief operating officer of SpaceX
ALT Our spotlight for this month is Carlos Acosta. He is one of the greatest ballet dancers of all time. Currently, he is a director of Birmingham Royal Ballet. He also runs the Acosta Danza dance company and The Carlos Acosta International Dance Foundation. Carlos's very touching story and the obstacles he has overcome speak for themselves. 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 On the first day of each month, we will post about a leading figure from sports, art, entertainment, tech, food, design, politics, and other walks of life. Each spotlight is designed to help kids learn about relatively unknown exceptional people, and inspire them to follow their own dreams.

ALT Meet Dr. Mae Jemison. She is an engineer, physician, astronaut, entrepreneur, educator and a philanthropist! She became the first black woman to travel into space when she served as a mission specialist aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour.
ALT Mae liked science when she was young. She was a very good student. Mae went to Stanford when she was only sixteen and graduated with two degrees - chemical engineering and African and Afro-American Studies. She went on to study medicine at Cornell University Medical College. According to spacecenter.org, Mae had a fear of heights but it never held her back from realizing her dream to travel into space.
ALT Mae's story is all the more inspiring because she broke gender and racial barriers, showing that the prejudice that society had previously placed on her gender and race were false.

ALT Eesha holds the titles of Woman Grandmaster and International Master. She has represented India in the Chess Olympiads and has won multiple awards including a Gold Medal at the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2011 in South Africa.
