In January 2025 my mom’s lung cancer spread to her brain. The drug with the best chance of helping her was approved in China but not here. A doctor told me, almost as an aside, that if she were Chinese she could buy it at a pharmacy. So I flew to Shanghai and came home with 26 boxes in my luggage. That was 19 months ago. My mom is still here, still working, and in her words has had an amazing three years. The drug was approved in China in 2023. The FDA approved it in July 2025. It still is not for sale here. I know of at least 30 Americans who have made the same trip. I have been scared to tell this story because I worried it could cost my mom access to the medicine keeping her alive. But the problem matters more than my silence. These drugs need to be developed and available here, and that means FDA reform. Art Allen at KFF Health News told our story this week. It also ran in The Washington Post. kffhealthnews.org/health-ind…

I am standing to be Secretary-General because I believe this is a moment to act with greater urgency: to act earlier, bring people together across difference, and drive the work forward until it produces concrete results. That is how we rebuild trust in the United Nations and ensure it delivers meaningful change for the people it exists to serve. My vision: lananusseibeh.org

My salute to the Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his extraordinary bravery. Despite being stabbed and seriously injured, he fought back, resisted, opened the cockpit door, and enabled passengers and crew to overpower the attacker — preventing a catastrophic mid-air disaster. He saved the lives of 174 people, including Israeli citizens and other nationals. I wish Captain Machchhar a speedy and full recovery. He is a true hero.

Most of Delhi’s empowered brats lived most of their lives asking, ‘jante ho mere baap kaun ho?’. Until the SIR form turned the question on them- ‘who is your father /grandfather?’ #ECI

Law, Power, and the Limits of Adjudication Ten years after the landmark 2016 South China Sea Arbitration, the gap between legal rights and their enforcement remains a defining challenge for the maritime order. In this paper, Shaumik Roy revisits the Philippines v. China Award and examines its wider Indo-Pacific consequences - from China’s continued rejection of the ruling and the Philippines’ expanding security partnerships to the lessons emerging from other maritime disputes. The paper argues that international law can establish durable legal rights, but its practical impact often depends on the diplomatic and strategic partnerships built around them.
