The journalist, appearing on French television network CNews, claimed intelligence sources had identified individuals connected to Islamist movements carrying Kalashnikov rifles and Skorpion submachine guns during the riots. She later clarified that her information came from other intelligence contacts rather than directly from the DGSI and maintained that firearms had circulated during the unrest. No official weapons seizures or police findings have independently confirmed those allegations. The controversy followed massive demonstrations over rising living costs, education, and public services that descended into widespread violence in several French cities. Masked rioters smashed storefronts, looted businesses, set fires, and clashed with police as authorities struggled to contain the destruction. In Limoges, the historic town hall was set ablaze, while scenes of smoke, debris, and damaged businesses emerged from Marseille and other urban centers. Authorities reported approximately 2,400 arrests nationwide during the unrest, attributing much of the violence to ultra-left groups and opportunistic criminals.
