“Play to earn” isn’t dead, it’s just badly in need of a rebrand and on the verge of an evolution from older broken models. There are 2 primary paths that I’m bullish on— 1️⃣ Risk Protocol. These are risk-on, zero sum games, or games where some loss is involved for one or multiple parties; and the economy is overall net deflationary (or closed loop). @wolfdotgame, @cyber_stadium, @DKReignmakers are all early examples – they mimic behaviors you typically see in poker or DFS, catalyzed by turbo-degen crypto spending patterns. @natealex did this well with ChainFaces arena during the bull; same with @zed_run in the early days before shit the fan for other reasons. 2️⃣ Games without ERC-20 tokens. Instead, players can win, achieve, or craft select on-chain items that mimic familiar progression paths (e.g. gear, skins, resources, or even characters). Much less about speculation and much more about monetizing scarce or coveted assets through achievement, if desired (ownership, provenance, social glory are all also powerful drivers). ⚡️ Dookey Dash was a good example of this in a bottle.
