The NHS has cured 100K people of hepatitis C in the last 10 years.
The treatment is simple: one tablet a day for 12 weeks. The cure rate is 95%. Deaths from the virus are down 36%.
England is now on course to be among the first countries to eliminate hepatitis C entirely, ahead of the WHO's 2030 target.
That didnβt happen by accident. It happened because a public health system negotiated bulk drug deals, built home-testing at scale, and actively sought out the people least likely to turn up at their GP.
The NHS doesn't always work brilliantly.
But when it does, it delivers outcomes like this.

At @WWLNHS, frontline nurses, clinical informaticians and mental health teams worked together to redesign the Emergency Department mental health referral process.
The flexibility of the Altera EPR platform enabled the trust to optimise workflows and introduce a digital referral process that auto-populates patient information, routes referrals in real time, and allows patients to be referred immediately on arrival.
The impact:
β’ Referral times reduced by 95%
β’ Faster access to mental health assessment
β’ Reduced duplication and operational risk
β’ Better collaboration between ED and mental health teams
Recognised nationally through the HSJ Digital Awards and Nursing Times Awards, this project demonstrates whatβs possible when clinical expertise and technology come together with a shared purpose.

Another go live week! This week we went live in HIS with our new T-MACs decision aid tool on the EPR system. Hopefully this will aid in rapidly ruling out ACS where applicable and help in identifying patients who need urgent intervention β₯οΈ @titu_helen @InformaticsWWL @WWLNHS
