Every year, £6 BILLION is taken out of our public services in outsourcing profits.
That's money for NHS nurses, care workers, free school meals and council homes.
It's time for @andyburnham and the Government to end the outsourcing scam.

Transport Secretary @Heidi_Labour says she wants a railway that's an employer of choice.
Does that include the outsourced workers at @LNER ?
Or are they expected to survive on £12.71 an hour?

More PCS members affected by the Capita pension crisis tell us why their scheme should be taken back in-house, to be serviced by civil servants. PCS continues to regularly meet with representatives of the Cabinet Office to address this crisis and pressure govt into fulfilling its promised biggest wave of insourcing in a generation. pcs.org.uk/news-events/news/…

If those calling for welfare cuts really cared about wasteful spending - why the silence on outsourcing?
If you attack living standards, you pile pressure onto other services.
Cutting out the profiteers ripping off the taxpayer makes far more sense.
Insource now.
🚨 NEW: A report from @Cmmonwealth has found that over £6 billion in profit was taken from public services by outsourcing companies last year.
That sum would pay for 300,000 additional adult social care workers to look after Britain’s vulnerable.
Striking outsourced rail workers to take battle to Labour Party conference
RAIL union RMT will hold protests outside Labour Party conference meeting in Liverpool on Monday September 28 with striking outsourced rail workers to highlight low pay and calling for them to be taken in-house.
Outsourced RMT members on TransPennine contracts working for Bidvest Noonan and Rail Gourmet are striking against low pay and in-work poverty.
Outsourced workers on another publicly owned contract LNER who work for Gate Solutions will also be taking strike action next month at Doncaster, Edinburgh Waverley, King’s Cross, Leeds, Newcastle and York starting with 24-hour action from October 16.
The growth in strike action by outsourced workers comes as the Common Wealth think tank published a report which says that by allowing public service outsourcing the government was effectively driving workers into poverty.
“The government is complicit in trends towards in-work poverty that have seen the proportion of non-retired people living in households that receive more in benefits than they pay in taxes increase.
“Outsourced workers tend to have lower wages and more insecure working arrangements than those directly employed in the public sector,” the report said.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey also said that over one million people who work in public services were now on privately run contracts.
“That is a recipe for grinding poverty and poorer services, if the work is permanent so should the jobs.
“Bringing workers in-house makes sense for the taxpayer and the economy,” he said.
Common Wealth cites RMT findings: 25% of directly employed members at English train operators were Black and minority ethnic, versus 58% in outsourced cleaning and catering.
Ending the two-tier railway is an equality issue.

Public ownership must extend to the workforce.
This report includes train and station cleaning, catering and rail infrastructure work within its account of outsourcing.
Publicly owned operators still have divided workforces if these services remain outsourced.

The cost of outsourcing
The report estimates that public bodies spent £129 billion on outsourced services in 2024/25, equivalent to around 11% of total public spending.
Private companies made £6 billion in operating profits from those services in the same year.
