A security incident exposes traders to two risks at once: market prices keep moving, while their funds may be temporarily out of reach. Binance suspended deposits and withdrawals and pledged to cover hacking losses. The attack vector, final losses, and timeline for returning funds remain subject to further disclosure. This incident raises three questions for the entire industry. ▸ Freezing, recovery, and compensation are separate stages. Freezing restricts the movement of affected assets. It does not mean those funds have been returned. Final losses depend on recovery efforts, the handling of frozen assets, and the execution of compensation. Treating frozen amounts as either confirmed losses or recovered funds misrepresents the situation. ▸ Visibility into funds does not equal control over them. Onchain records help trace asset movements, but public transaction data alone cannot prevent unauthorized transfers. Assessing fund security requires deeper questions: Who can sign transactions? Who can change permissions? Who can upgrade contracts? What exit options remain available to users when something goes wrong? ▸ Trading risk includes the inability to move capital when needed. In perpetual markets, the ability to deposit, withdraw, and transfer collateral directly affects position management during volatility. Traders need to assess leverage and liquidation prices alongside capital concentration and dependence on a single platform.
