As the temperatures begin to warm UP 📈, the historic snowpack in the Sierra will begin to go DOWN📉.
🏔️This snow melt will result in increased runoff, as well as rivers, creeks, and streams flowing faster than normal with ICE COLD water. 🥶

In addition to creeks, streams, & rivers flowing faster than normal due to snow melt, the water in these waterways will be VERY COLD! Make sure to use caution near creeks & other waterways as hypothermia can set in fast with even a short time spent in the water.

Caltrans will begin emergency repair work on State Route 168 W, U.S. Highway 6, and State Route 120 W tomorrow. Work is scheduled for Monday through Friday from 7 am to 6 pm. There will be one-way traffic control on all three roads and drivers may experience 20-minute delays.

Caltrans is calling in helicopters to assist with avalanche mitigation. But these helicopters need clear airspace to fly. So please, keep your drones off of the State Highway System and away from avalanche areas. Drones in the sky may delay or outright cancel mitigation efforts.

ATTN DRIVERS: U.S. 395 is now open from Bishop to Lee Vining. @Caltrans9 maintenance crews will work through the night and into tomorrow clearing more snow from it and other highways as we work toward reopening more roads in Mono and Inyo counties.

ATTN DRIVERS: U.S. Highway 395 has been CLOSED from the junction with State Route 203 (Mammoth Lakes) to the town of Bridgeport due to whiteout conditions and heavy snowfall. There is no estimation for when the road will reopen.

Grab your life vests! Our fire personnel @ Sacramento NWR (CA) completed a #rxfire via airboat and terra torch - allowing them to reach areas of the wetland that are normally inaccessible. Regular fire in wetlands is vital to promote healthy habitat for wildlife

Due to significant heavy snow, wind, and whiteout conditions on the highway, US 395 will remain closed overnight from Gorge Road (13 miles n/o Bishop) to Bridgeport. @Caltrans9 will continue clearing snow overnight. It will be assessed for reopening tomorrow by Caltrans and CHP.
