ALT 1: Fruits and Vegetables Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins that work to keep your heart young and strong.
ALT 2: Whole Grains Whole grains have the ability to lower blood pressure and cholesterol levels—which, as we learned earlier this month, contribute to heart health!
ALT 3: Protein Proteins are what your body uses to repair and build muscle—which is necessary for productive heart function! Eating lean meat, fish, and/or plant proteins is awesome for your heart health!

ALT Happy American Heart Month! Here are 3 types of exercise and how they can improve your heart health!
ALT 1: Aerobic Exercise Consistent aerobic exercise improves overall blood flow and your heart's ability to pump blood. Experts recommend aerobic exercise for 30 minutes every day or at least five days a week. Examples: running, walking, swimming
ALT 2: Resistance Training Resistance training, otherwise known as strength training, can help to reduce fat. Leaner muscle mass is healthier! Experts say that at least two days of resistance training is good. Examples: lifting weights, bodyweight exercises
ALT 3: Stretching, Flexibility & Balance This type of exercise does not directly influence heart health. However, it does prepare your body for other types of exercise (aerobic, resistance training), which positively impact heart health. Experts recommend stretching every day.

ALT 1: High blood pressure High blood pressure is often called a silent killer because there aren’t many symptoms. Measuring your blood pressure is a great way to monitor it! There are several ways to lower your blood pressure, including lifestyle changes and medications.
ALT 2: High blood cholesterol Cholesterol is naturally produced in the body. However, sometimes we have too much from the foods we eat. The best way to ensure your cholesterol levels are healthy is to get them checked by a doctor!
ALT 3: Diabetes Diabetes can cause sugar to build up in the blood, which increases the risk for heart disease. If you have diabetes or are at risk, make sure you are managing your blood sugar levels!
