Subject: Formal Objection to the Government of Canada Regarding its Position on the Iranian Islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb Dear Prime Minister Mark Carney, The Canada Desk of the Office of Political and Diplomatic Relations of the Iran Novin Party expresses its serious concern and unequivocal objection to the position reflected in the joint statement issued by the Governments of Canada and the United Arab Emirates on 28 October 2026, particularly with regard to the Iranian islands of Abu Musa, Greater Tunb and Lesser Tunb. The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iran constitute fundamental and non-negotiable national principles. They transcend governments, political systems and ideological differences. No diplomatic, economic or strategic consideration should justify endorsing positions that challenge Iran’s territorial integrity. It is fundamentally contradictory to invoke the principles of sovereignty, territorial integrity and non-interference while supporting claims concerning territories that Iran regards as an inseparable part of its national territory. Such an approach raises serious questions about the consistent application of international principles in diplomatic relations. We emphasize that the Iranian people must not be conflated with the Islamic Republic. Opposition to the ruling regime does not diminish the Iranian nation’s historical identity, national dignity or unwavering commitment to preserving its territorial integrity. The political future of Iran belongs to its people; the integrity of its national territory is a matter of enduring national interest that transcends the current political system. We therefore call upon the Government of Canada to reconsider its position and uphold the principles of international law consistently and without political double standards. Canada’s approach should reflect due respect for Iran’s territorial integrity and the legitimate national interests of the Iranian people, irrespective of its position toward the Islamic Republic. Iran is a historical nation whose territorial integrity is indivisible. Its sovereignty is not a matter of diplomatic convenience, political expediency or negotiation at the expense of its national interests. We trust that the Government of Canada will give this matter the serious consideration it warrants and ensure that its future diplomatic positions reflect a consistent commitment to sovereignty, territorial integrity and the equal application of international principles.
