In line with long historical practice, capitalist markets are already punishing the people of Brazil with capital flight, yanking assets from the country and making it far harder for the government to meet the public’s demands

Lula pulled off a historic comeback in Brazil. Despite right-wing voter suppression tactics deployed across the country, further online suppression by Meta, and the US backing his opponent, he’s projected to win 51-48.

So let met get that straight: paying a wealth tax is impossible (“billionaires have no liquidity”, “it would be taxing unrealized gains”, “their wealth is virtual”) but paying half a billion to influence elections is possible. Did I understand well?
Elon Musk has cemented his record as the largest individual political donor in modern American history. Musk poured $446 million of his own money into this year’s midterm elections, mostly aimed at preserving the Republican Party’s control of Congress. wapo.st/4igb5Kq

Not only was Hitler far right, many historians have pointed out that his rise to power largely depended on cooperation from more moderate conservatives and powerful capitalists who shared the Nazi's fear of socialism and hatred of Weimar democracy...
Hitler was a far left socialist. Literally in the name of his party!

Dear god, yeah so the New Deal was a social contract because it was institutionalized through Social Security and Medicare and paid for collectively. “I give you dimes when I feel like it” is not a social contract, you degraded bootlicking toadies

I’m in the Jacobin today! Have a weekend read about the sad waste of the Google antitrust cases and the hot new trend of successfully suing Facebook
This year has seen the resolution of major suits against tech giants Alphabet and Meta, both of which were found liable for serious lawbreaking. Yet the penalties imposed on the corporations are laughably inadequate to restrain their power. jacobin.com/2026/10/big-tech…

there's evidence that the use of AI in schools is delivering the opposite of "intellectual flourishing"—maybe in some bubbles the use of these models is leading to more reading and philosophical debates but I'm inclined to think that's an exception to the rule
AI IS AMAZING I know it's hip to worry about the decline in book reading and how chatbots will impoverish our brains. But TBH, this is not at all what I see. I wrote about how we're in this wild moment for intellectual flourishing and how all of us are the children of dancers.

Yes, drive up their costs to kingdom come with tariffs and Mideast wars we start, then just bail out your most blindly loyal constituents with billions we cut from schools and AIDS victims. Good stuff
