Dangerously close to voting for Bill Redpath for Senate to finally sell some of my "It ain't ratf**kery if the sockpuppet wins" bumper stickers.
Entering Week 2 of round the clock coverage of Acton-Vivek ads. There are no other elections this year, right?
I believe we are in an existential struggle for the future of our country and the rejuvenation of our democracy. If this struggle is allowed to be partisan, we are doomed.
It is necessary to join together in a new movement, independent of the Democrats and Republicans.
I have sympathy but it's thinning. Democrats only say "lesser evil" when it benefits them.
They won't raise a finger to elect Independents in deep red districts. They love playing spoiler there.
The Dem needs to drop out so we can defeat Jim Jordan. Until that happens...
The independent narrative hasn't broken through. The highly engaged, let alone the general public, have not heard of the independent candidates or their potential.
Yes, the news media is part of the problem. But it's the fact that a few uncoordinated independents aren't enough.

Socialists discovered that corporations have too much power and proposed merging your employer, landlord and grocery store into one institution with a police force and military.
Being in politics is pretty annoying because you can spend a lot of time on messaging and ground game and spending and it's still 99% thermostatic politics and wherever gas prices are at.
And then you also have people who make their money by explaining why it isn't just that.

I have a column today in The Washington Post: “Why $11 a day represents extraordinary prosperity.”
washingtonpost.com/opinions/…
I summarize evidence of incredible growth in human prosperity over the last 30 years and how that prosperity has come, in fact, with slightly lower inequality at the world level and, since 2012, falling per capita carbon emissions. Hundreds of millions of families no longer live at the edge of subsistence.
The point about carbon emissions is interesting: population growth has driven all the increase in total emissions since 2012. Since world population will peak around 2055, the path to decarbonization will be easier than often assumed.
This is also why relying on what I think are the United Nations’ seriously flawed population projections is so damaging to good policy. If you feed the wrong population forecast into integrated assessment models of climate change, you will get the wrong policy implications. This is not about getting one Excel file wrong; this is about getting first-order decisions wrong.
More pointedly, the experience of the last two centuries teaches us a clear lesson: good economic policy, based on the rule of law, markets, property rights, limited government, sound fiscal and monetary policy, international economic cooperation, and attention to families, education, health, and housing, can serve the common good: broad prosperity, lower inequality, technological dynamism, and stewardship of the earth. If we also find a way to fix the fertility crisis so couples can have the children they hope for, the possibilities for what we can achieve over the next 100 years are unbounded.

"No job means no dignity" usually comes from people with great jobs. For everyone getting yelled at, underpaid, and pushed to the limit, dignity looks like being able to say no.
As early voting starts, the message from the Democratic candidate running against Independent Tracey Tackett and Republican Jim Jordan: "Both parties are a disappointment. I wasn't even a Democrat until this year!"
Bravo.
Subsidizing demand while do nothing to increase supply in a supply crunch... is extremely bad policy!
Like many reform movements of the 2010s, much of the new economic thinking activists have fallen into a general "Everything is evil" anti-establishment, populist slop.
There were valid alternatives and still valid concerns! But I can't be lumped in with these people...
This campaign WILL be observing Halloween for all of October. And while VERY TOUGH TO BEAT, we will be the absolute Spookiest campaign in the country.
The official position of the Grady for Governor campaign is we are a nation led be idiots (article v, sec 6!).
There is a supply crunch. Does a tax reduce supply in this case? No!
This will accomplish nothing and all these people should be voted out for pandering lies.

We think too narrowly. Think "that part of town is bad, my part of town is good, I'm looking out for my part".
It's too connected to think that way. We rise and fall together. It all comes back on us. Even self-interest requires us to consider the whole picture.
