Before you: Plant a church Preach a sermon Write books Buy yourself onto NYT bestseller list Scream at your congregation Get married & have kids Give marriage advice Leave one church in scandal Start another church ezpz nbd Mock the least of these Go to therapy.
Check out this clip from a recent Mark Driscoll sermon. Notice how uncomfortable his anger and bloodthirstiness for his neighbors’ judgment makes you feel. And ask yourself how your local conservative evangelical church’s theology is any different.

Everyone on social media should know about the Illusory Truth Effect If you see something repeated enough times, it seems more true. Multiple studies show that it works on 85% of people. Worse, it still happens even if the information isn't plausible & even if you know better.

THREAD: The biggest story of my life is finally out.  Since 2019, I’ve been investigating a monitoring tool called Social Sentinel. They bill it as a way to help save students’ lives.  I found it had another purpose — surveilling campus protests. bit.ly/3xxFWM7

Perhaps: abusive elected officials, religious leaders who give them cover, & many journalists all depend on the same $$ to buy their daily bread. Which makes me grateful for all elected officials, religious leaders, and journalists who know we do not live by bread alone, 1/2
.@brianmclaren, I’m truly befuddled as to why publicly acknowledging that abusive elected officials are in public arrangements with particular churches seems to be beneath the interest of so many journalists, pundits, & talkative people. Do you have thoughts on this?

Andrew Peterson writes in order to grieve his friend, listing for us some of his favorite things about Thomas McKenzie: is.gd/VS2mB4 “Yours was the long and steady presence of a brook coursing over stones, persistent and peaceful, and now the creek has gone dry.”
