Now talk about the demon that has been in the @WhiteHouse since the Franklin Pierce administration, due to his wife having introduced it to the #WhiteHouse while grieving over the tragic loss of their boy.

According to White House lore, Winston Churchill said he met Abraham Lincoln there...about eighty years after Lincoln died.
Churchill stayed there several times in the 1940s. The man liked to end his days with a long, hot bath, a glass of scotch and a cigar.
As the story goes, one night he climbed out of the bath and walked into the bedroom wearing nothing but a cigar.
Standing by the fireplace was Abraham Lincoln.
Churchill didn’t flinch. He took the cigar out of his mouth and said:
“Good evening, Mr. President. You seem to have me at a disadvantage.”
Lincoln smiled...and vanished.
Churchill reportedly never stayed in that room again.
What makes the story more wild is that Churchill wasn’t the only one who saw Lincoln.
Over the years, presidents, first ladies, and White House staff have reported seeing Lincoln’s ghost more than any other in the house.
Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands supposedly answered a knock at her guest room door and found Lincoln standing in the hallway in his top hat. She fainted.

A class of kindergartners in Iowa mailed in $1.35 to save the Statue of Liberty.
It was 1885. The Statue of Liberty sat in crates in New York because there was no money to build her pedestal.
So Joseph Pulitzer made a promise in his newspaper. Give anything, and he would print your name.
More than 120,000 Americans answered. Schoolchildren, factory workers, widows. Most gave less than a dollar.
Their pennies raised her up.
On October 28, 1886, 140 years ago today, they dedicated Lady Liberty.
The rich didn't build her. Everyday people built her because they believed in something bigger.
Today's story from Past Passport. I share one or two every day.

Today marks the anniversary of one of the most important battles in the history of Christendom.
On the morning of October 28, 312 — after receiving a vision of a cross and hearing God say, “In this sign you shall conquer” — Constantine ordered his men to paint the Chi-Rho on their shields and prepare for battle.
He then defeated Maxentius at the Milvian Bridge and claimed Rome, the Eternal City.
Crediting his victory to God, Constantine went on to issue the Edict of Milan, legalizing Christianity across the Roman Empire.
His statue now stands at the foot of the Scala Regia in the Vatican, a permanent monument to this great Christian leader who defended the Church.

63% of Ukrainians say they’re ready to endure the war for as long as it takes. That’s from today’s KIIS poll — widely seen as loyal to Zelenskyy’s Office — based on 828 respondents. The full breakdown: 63% as long as necessary. Meanwhile, in my Telegram poll of nearly 1,500 people: only 1% said the same. 95% want the war to end right now, on any terms. Another 4% are open to ending it while keeping Donbas and Western guarantees. When the numbers look this different, which one is closer to how people actually feel?

Star Trek TOS is not an ensemble show. It had its 3 leads along with a cast of supporting characters --
Walter Koenig said as much in several interviews.
What I believe he missed was that, due to the immense charisma and talent of the supporting cast, the format (cont'd)

Of future Star Trek shows was forever changed.
Star Trek became an ensemble piece because people like Walter Koenig put so much heart, humor and love into their smaller roles that we all came to accept that they were all stars of the show we loved.

According to White House legend, Abigail Adams is still doing her laundry there, more than 200 years later.
In November 1800, John and Abigail Adams became the first to live in the White House. It wasn’t finished. The plaster was still wet, firewood was scarce and most of the rooms were empty shells.
Abigail had to make do. In a letter to her daughter, she wrote:
“The great unfinished audience-room I make a drying-room of, to hang up the clothes in.”
That “audience-room” is called the East Room today, the grandest room in the White House, where presidents host state dinners. Abigail strung clotheslines across it.
The Adams only lived there for about four months.
But according to lore, she never left.
During the Taft years, White House staff reported seeing a woman in an old-fashioned cap and shawl drifting toward the East Room, her arms held out as if carrying a basket of laundry.
Over the years, staff and visitors have reported smelling fresh laundry and lavender in the East Room, though no one has ever found where it comes from.

DEMINING BEGINS
Russia and Ukraine have commenced demining operations to ensure safe passage of humanitarian aid into Oleshky.
These operations are being conducted pursuant to the Ceasefire Agreement, as confirmed by Dmytro Lubinets, Ukrainian Parliament Commissioner for Human Rights.
❗️Humanitarian Mission to Oleshky: Route Demining Underway
Together with Yana Lantratova, Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation, we continue preparations for a humanitarian mission to assist the civilian population of Oleshky.
This effort is being carried out through the mediation and coordination of U.S. First Lady Melania Trump (@FLOTUS), who has helped the parties reach the necessary agreement and move toward its practical implementation.
👉 Since October 27, the ceasefire has been in effect in designated areas, and the parties have been observing it. Route demining is currently underway. This is a crucial step toward ensuring the safe delivery of humanitarian aid and enabling civilians who wish to leave the city to do so.
Within the framework of the agreement reached by Yana Lantratova and me as heads of the negotiating teams, we continue working to implement the mission. Our shared goal is to ensure that people receive assistance and have the opportunity to reach safety.
We remain committed to this effort, putting the lives and safety of civilians first.
