One of the better Anglican quizzes I've seen. Very unsurprising results for me. anglican-quiz.vercel.app/
The Anglican Spectrum Test says that I am "A Sola-Fide Enjoying Puseyite" who 'might relate to Richard Hooker'. I.e. they don't have a category for 'Old High'. forhttps://anglican-quiz.vercel.app/

it's awful seeing other people live your dream
Actual shot (not AI!) of a French detective working the case of the French Crown Jewels that were stolen from the Louvre in a brazen daylight robbery. Somehow he looks like he’s smoking even without a cigarette in his hand, but surely everything you know about life is screaming at you: this case is officially screwed! To solve it, we need an unshaven, overweight, washed-out detective who's in the middle of divorce. A functioning alcoholic who the rest of the department hates. Never gonna crack it with a detective who wears an actual fedora unironically.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The photo is real, taken outside the Louvre after the jewel theft. The man in the fedora is a passerby, not a detective on the case. newsweek.com/louvre-heist-d… newsroom.ap.org/editorial-phot…

Raising a glass to the immortal memory of Lord Nelson this evening. On Sunday, the Royal Naval and Royal Marines Associations of York were with us for their annual Mattins and our prayers included Nelson’s prayer and one of the ones “to be used at sea” in the Prayer Book.

Bp. Jeremy Taylor on the decline of Christian piety since the early church: “Christianity, while pure and zealous, kept its laws for about three hundred years; for so long the Church remained a virgin. During that time, believers were still warmed with their first fires and kept under discipline by the rod of persecution. But for near fourteen hundred years she has declined. Prosperity and pride, luxury and wealth, ambition and self-interest, false doctrine—whether through ignorance or design—the malice of the devil, the sloth of men, corrupt examples, and the loss of reverence for piety, have all brought a grievous decay of holiness and holy living. Jean Papire Masson, one of their own, said of the popes of Rome, “No man looks for holiness in the bishops of Rome; the best are thought to be those who are not extremely wicked, or only a little less good than ordinary men.” The same, alas, is too true of most Christians: a man is now considered excellent if he is not a traitor, or an adulterer, or an oppressor, or a drunkard, or scandalous—if he is not as bad as the publican, as the vilest among those with whom he associates.” (Discourses vol. 2, Sermon XIV.)

Was horrified to see this graffiti on Canterbury Cathedral, founded by St. Augustine himsef, then I discovered it was actually an initiative welcomed by the Church of England! The work came from ‘marginalised communities’ According to the Dean of Canterbury: "There is a rawness which is magnified by the graffiti style which is disruptive...Above all, this graffiti makes me wonder why I am not always able to be as candid, not least in my prayers."

Bad take. Luther: How can water do such great things? 10 Answer: It is not the water indeed that does them, but the word of God which is in and with the water, and faith, which trusts such word of God in the water. For without the word of God the water is simple water and no baptism. But with the word of God it is a baptism, that is, a gracious water of life and a washing of regeneration in the Holy Ghost, as St. Paul says, Titus, chapter three: By the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Ghost, which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ, our Savior, that, being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. This is a faithful saying.

The very colourful rood screen at the Church of All Saints in Earls Barton, Northamptonshire, has some unusual decoration…it was re-painted in 1935 by Henry Bird, who happened to be a lepidopterist and incorporated hundreds of butterflies into his design!

“We men may often make very bad priests. That is because we are insufficiently masculine. It is no cure to call in those who are not masculine at all.” —C. S. Lewis, “Priestesses in the Church?” 🔗summerstudy.yale.edu/sites/d…
The first female priests in the CofE were ordained in 1994. They claimed these women served under the authority of the all-male episcopacy. Then the first female bishop was installed in 2014. Now this. Egalitarian compromises never stop until all distinctions are removed.
