Ag 16 I was told if there was 100 people in a room, 99 would be better. A few years on, I own a business that gets to work with some of the biggest names in sport, supported by Virgin SU and every day I live the dream. If there’s a will, there’s a way! #DyslexiaAwarenessWeek

Club coaches and volunteers, this one’s for you. A year of small-sided games your whole club can use. Comment “CLUB” and I’ll share it.

The best coaches design the problem and let the game do the teaching. Small-sided games make that easy. Set it up, step back, observe.

From people don’t say: Spurs & Liverpool FC are charging schools £20,000+ a year for “partnerships” where they send in often below par and novice coaches. Where most schools don’t catch on is that, these are run from the commercial arm of the club and not the coaching side.

Nonsense, my 3 boys have had equal game time in all their teams up to now. It’s not hard to work out how long each player is on the pitch for.

Why does 1 kid deserve more playing time over another? The players and the parents time/money is worth the same as any others

Failing to do that pushes kids out of the sport. I honestly believe if you give equal time early more teams would stay together and you would NOT have the exodus around the 11v11 transition that seems to happen everywhere.

How do you know a session has worked? What do you actually look for?

They’re kids, and their effort is often shaped by the support they get from their parents. At this age, it’s about developing a love for the game, not punishing them for something which probably isn’t even their fault.

Equal game time at grassroots should be non-negotiable. The kid on the bench needs the minutes more than the star does.

Give every coach at your club the same deck and you give them a shared language. Same games, same standards, every age group. 🔗 thecoachinglab.org/collectio…

Coaching badges don’t make great coaches. Curiosity, reflection and time with players do.
