In 2025, the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) demanded a ban on Indian yarn imports through land ports. Then Bangladesh banned yarn imports from India through five major land ports.
Today, in 2026, Bangladesh's garment industry is facing serious unrest. Garment workers are clashing with police, demanding higher wages. Hundreds of factories have suspended operations, with around 679 plants affected.
Meanwhile, India's textile exports have risen by 16.1%.
