NIMBYs won’t even make coherent arguments against new housing anymore, they’ll seriously just look at you and say whatever this is

Oh okay yeah, so you definitely think where you live is "nice" and cities are not.
YIKES
We're done here. You clearly have no idea what a city is even like.
Hearing people complain about “luxury condos” is so irritating
1. Because the rich need places to live too, if they don’t have nice condos downtown they buy up land and homes in the suburbs and take space from families
2. Developers will market *anything* as luxury to sell it

Both the theory and […] empirical evidence supported the premise that increasing the supply of housing reduces sales prices and rents or moderates their growth and therefore makes housing more affordable to low- and moderate-income families.

The developer behind MIDA's Deer Valley expansion gave more than $60,000 to Utah Republicans in October.
Most of the money went to Senate leaders and lawmakers whose districts include MIDA projects.

I can’t believe these type of people still exist after 16 years of the same dumb argument. Cities have to build, it’s what makes them cities.

If the tent is big enough to include literal Stalinists, it should be big enough to include social democrats and even disaffected liberals.
Fully get why people would have issue with that but I don’t think we’re in a position to be picky given how big of a hill we have to climb.

Whether DSA should be endorsing social democrats is a different question, but it's been organizational policy for the entire existence of DSA so Raman isn't some uniquely bad case.

You know I wish national DSA was putting their attention and effort into this race a week before the election rather than whatever the fuck it is they are doing.

LA is the WORST American city (compared to its potential) and Raman is running a campaign to change that.
Why NPC would stab this elected official, a DSA official, in the back right before her election is baffling, and also shows candidates they can’t trust National DSA.
The DSA National Political Committee has voted to unendorse and expel Nithya Raman
She has until October 31 to express clear direct support for BDS to retain endorsement, and until January 1 to condemn weapon shipments for Israel out of LAX to remain a member of DSA

The U.S. has one of the least revolutionary populations in the world with a huge chunk of the country openly hostile to socialism.
If you don’t want to accept social democrats or even disaffected liberals in the DSA tent that’s fine but the organization will have a hard ceiling.
Also the affordable working person units of today are yesterdays luxury or luxury equivalent housing. We need turnover on homes and we need new homes in our cities. Our cities cannot stay the same size forever.
The Utah Democrats are hoping to expand their caucus out of Salt Lake County by flipping #HD59, which combines Wasatch County with the liberal resort town of Park City.
It backed Trump by 11, but the Dems have a great candidate and no GOP incumbent running.

The best way to build political power in this country is to kneecap the more progressive candidates right before the election. Genius move here.

Utah, Alabama, and West Virginia all have a more pro-trans Medicaid policy than what Turek is advocating for. Those are all *significantly* redder than Iowa. He does not need to do this to win.

New: Iowa Democrat Josh Turek is running a radical Senate campaign ... to the center
- Opposes impeachment
- Supports Laken Riley Act
- Criticizes Dems for blocking Husted data center bill and farm bill
- Ticks off all the ways he can work with Trump
“Politically, the term moderate can be pejorative. And I say that I’m proudly a moderate," he says in an interview.
His opponent, Rep. Ashley Hinson, says Turek is "going to be voting with Chuck Schumer 100% of the time." But she too is running toward the center, distancing herself from Trump on Iran, Russia and Vivek ad
Turek: Hinson’s “masquerading. I mean that’s a problem for me. I’m genuinely a bipartisan person,” he added. “She has been partisan. … Just be who you are.”

Gentrification is caused by lack of development. If you place a limit on new housing, then you have a fixed population which will get replaced by newcomers. You have to build to accommodate population growth

Adam Hamilton on transgender rights:
“I don’t think we should take a small group of people and bully them, pick on them, and hurt them. I understand one thing really clearly when it comes to transgender people, and that is Jesus told me I was to love my neighbor as I love myself.”
“I’m gonna love the trans person as well as the straight person, male or female. We have to do better than picking on small groups. What’s happened is we’ve turned a group of people into a campaign issue because it polls well.”
