The change to the energy standing charge is very telling of the state of our national discourse. For 4 years ever since energy prices soared I have been hearing how the standing charge makes it hard for people to control their costs. Now it's gone and everyone is bitching.....
Imagine if someone asked you what you do for a living and your answer was; "I lie and talk complete bollocks online and all being well I might earn 40 or 50 quid for every piece of bollocks I put out there".
It’s very sad that in 2026 when you hear the phrase “a London Black Cab Driver says” what follows has nothing to do with what is good for Londoners. I feel for the few good ones left.

A London black cab driver fears the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street could push traffic onto surrounding roads and make it harder for cabbies to earn a living.
But those behind the plans say their traffic modelling suggests this won't happen and that traffic will be monitored.
