We try our hardest to look after the crops we grow but sometimes we get tripped up. Loads of great #onions left here for #gleaning but too many suffered from the extreme 40+ degree heat meaning we can’t store or sell them. Please come & help yourselves #backbritishfarmers

There is a lot of mythology about soils. Using a very large dataset from China a big gang of colleagues tried to put some numbers on why good soil management is important for yields and resilience: See results here: nature.com/articles/s41558-0…

This underlines a point I’ve made time & time again. We need to stop talking about “food poverty” which tries to shift the responsibility to the food industry. It is Income Poverty full stop which manifests itself in food, housing & fuel challenges. A disgrace in the UK in 2022

🚨 NEW: 600,000 people will be pulled into poverty due to inaction at the #SpringStatement We've modelled the impact of the failure to increase benefits in line with inflation, along with the 1.25% ⬆️ in National Insurance and change to the earnings threshold at which it is paid

Who doesn't love a sweet Australian import, eh? But actual imported Aussie cane sugar is way more complicated. The future trade deal with 🇦🇺 is right now being thrashed out in the Cabinet. And, I just can't get it out of my thread...👇

I’ve seen a number of tweets from MPs and others regarding yesterday’s amendments to the Agriculture Bill – which sought to ensure British standards of production aren’t jeopardised by future trade policy - and why they didn’t feel they could support them 1/

20 years today since Prof Keith Scott left us, far too soon. He was a great scientist, leader, mentor and friend. I was one of many to benefit from his schooling in scientific rigour and clearly remember him coaching me through my first paper......

A vegan vet on @BBCCountryfile and less than a minute given to the vet @RoyalAgUni to discuss @RedTractorFood An abhorrent piece that was not a true reflection of British farming and animal welfare standards. Where was the balance BBCCountryfile ?
