I think this is a very good time for people to watch Mehdi Hasan's debate with Oxford Prof. Emeritus Nigel Biggar.
Kemi Badenoch says the British Empire was “overall a force for good”. It shipped 3.2 million Africans in chains, drained an estimated $45 trillion from India and left taxpayers paying enslavers’ bill for 180 years. She looked at a crime against humanity and called it a favour.

I've heard a few stories from people who make it a point to trick-or-treat at Christopher Walken's house, because he doesn't decorate or dress up. What he does is take a single dining room chair, and sit in the middle of his driveway with a bowl of candy on his knee. And when people approach him, he takes out once single piece, hands it over, doesn't blink, and whispers weird things like "Watch out for the leaves. They're... slippery." lol

The concentration of world class pizza in West Town is remarkable… You’ve got Pizza’Mici, Coalfire, Milly’s, Salerno’s, and Bartoli’s all within a 5-minute walk of each other. Any one of those would be an ordinary town’s legendary pizza spot. Probably one of the best cuisine-specific pockets in America. West Town is Pizza Town USA.
Bears just hanging on my every move. I like these guys. Good solid win last night. Im rooting for them the rest of season and hope we meet again at SoFi. And Pizza Amici is very good. Already reviewed it and gave it a big score. To quote Fergie I'm so three thousand and eight, you so two thousand and late

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS: Rumpelstiltskin had a PRICELESS reaction to #Jaguars RB Bhayshul Tuten and his teammates doing the iconic “Tip-Toeing in My Jordans” touchdown celebration during this week's game. THIS IS COMEDY GOLD. 😭😭😭

I absolutely LOVE this. Christian Bale spent roughly 17 years fighting to make this happen. This week, his foster-care village opened in Palmdale, California: 12 homes built specifically to help keep siblings together when they enter foster care.

When the Mississippi River broke its levees in 1927, thirteen thousand Black refugees were stranded on a strip of high ground at Greenville — and the National Guard would not let them leave. Boats came. Boats left. The boats were for white families. The Great Mississippi Flood covered an area the size of several states. In Greenville, Black flood victims were held in the open on the crown of the levee — a strip only a few feet wide in places — for weeks. They were kept there deliberately. Planters feared that if Black labor evacuated, it would never come back to the cotton fields. So the Guard sealed them in. Refugees were made to unload relief supplies at gunpoint. Food was distributed to Black families only in exchange for work, and in some camps only to those wearing labor tags. A man was shot dead by a guardsman for refusing to work. Herbert Hoover, running the relief effort and running for president, learned about the conditions. A Black commission he appointed documented them. He promised reforms — including land for Black farmers — in exchange for keeping it quiet through the election. He won. The promises were never kept. The Black South drew its own conclusion. The flood accelerated the Great Migration: hundreds of thousands left, and Black voters began the long shift away from the party of Lincoln that reshaped American politics. They dammed the water and dammed the people behind it. One of the largest forced-labor episodes of the American twentieth century, and it has no memorial. This is why we must keep documenting our stories that they try to erase. Get yours: savvypurchase.samcart.com/pr…

Houston, we have a problem. Food and energy prices are exploding higher. The longer the Iran War drags on, the more these price increases will ripple through the economy. And the harder inflation will be to contain. Video: youtube.com/watch?v=9ROP49Ca…

I resigned from Anthropic today. I spent the last three years doing pretraining research at both OpenAI and Anthropic. Neither company is acting responsibly. They are racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives. More thoughts below.

Keith Lee's latest visit to Gary, Indiana is a reminder of what can happen when visibility turns into action and community answers the call. After seeing residents of Gary struggling in the aftermath of the August 11 storms, Keith used his platform to bring attention and resources to the city. In just days, that call grew into a massive relief effort with 40+ food trucks, hundreds of volunteers, more than 10 companies and thousands of residents receiving food, cleaning supplies and other essentials. Keith contributed $15,000 toward the effort, with Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton matching his donation for a combined $30,000. The Salvation Army, City of Gary, Ace Hardware and others also joined the effort. Gary, we see you. 🤎
