A little over a month ago, I went to the ER with severe abdominal pain that I thought was appendicitis. It turned out to be a large tumor that was blocking my colon. While the emergency surgery was successful (and I’m about 90% recovered from that), the tumor was malignant.

This video is fucking astounding. They're literally teaching white kids revisionist history to protect their feelings from an historical reality their parents still perpetuate.
People are sounding the alarm on the “supplemental curriculum” created by PragerU, an unaccredited right-wing group, that has been approved by Florida schools Frederick Douglass is depicted in a video, saying founding fathers had to "compromise" on slavery & urges kids to work within the system usatoday.com/story/news/nati…

Slavers used Christianity to try to “tame” the enslaved. To make them believe slavery was God’s will, rape and brutality were what the enslaved deserved. European settlers called Indians "savage” because they didn't live the way Europeans did. The indigenous culture was crushed. They were slaughtered and forced to relocate. The United States committed atrocities against Africans, African Americans, and Native Americans in the name of Christianity. There were lynching picnics. Souvenirs taken from mutilated Black bodies. This is American history. Hiding it gives racists cover to recommit atrocities of the past. #FreshWords

We're really having a public debate about whether slavery was good for enslaved people. That's how deep our political life has descended into overt white supremacy.

Lincoln spent the first two years of his presidency plotting to deport all Black people out of the U.S. Political support for "colonization" evaporated #OTD when the all-Black 54th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment fought the Second Battle of Fort Wagner near Charleston. A 🧵 1/

I'll take this one Many of us feel that there is nothing that Black people can do to prevent white people from believing this nonsense A thread.
I've always wondered how Blacks and other POC who benefit from affirmative action feel about the perception some may have that their achievements — however fully earned — may be partially due to bias in favor of minorities. This is unhealthy for minorities and society at large.

Under DeSantis’s new laws, Floridians may never learn there was once a Black Superintendent of Schools in Florida who was so forceful in his advocacy for civil and educational rights, that he had to sleep armed in his attic to ward off attacks from the KKK. Meet Jonathan Gibbs.
Replying to @profgabrielle
As the first Black superintendent of schools, Jonathan Gibbs supervised every county’s standard of education and established uniform textbooks across Florida. I hope his ghost is haunting Ron DeSantasis and Florida state legistlators who undermine and attack public education.
