Just to be clear, every MP who has reacted with shock at the Dr Sarah Redvers safeguarding whistleblowing case is going to campaign (and vote) against the Conversion Practice bill, right?
The draft Conversion Practice Bill will make it virtually impossible to call out malpractice - criminalising anyone who questions affirmation of transgenderism will create a climate of fear and children will be harmed @andyburnham

I just learned that he has no mother or father to speak up for him. And now the Islamic Republic wants to hang him. His name is Ilya Ben Rashid. He is a young Iranian protester He has a younger sister. Now he is facing a death sentence. He was arrested during the January 2026 protests in Iran. A Revolutionary Court in Isfahan sentenced him to death on charges of “waging war against God” for allegedly damaging public property. He is being held in Dastgerd Prison. Reports say he was denied a lawyer of his choice. Imagine facing execution for demanding freedom. We must become his voice. We must stop his execution. Say his name. Save Ilya Ben Rashid. #StopExecutionsInIran

I'm seeing quite a bit of comment about this, so I want to make a couple of points. I'm not owed eternal agreement from any actor who once played a character I created. The idea is as ludicrous as me checking with the boss I had when I was twenty-one for what opinions I should hold these days. Emma Watson and her co-stars have every right to embrace gender identity ideology. Such beliefs are legally protected, and I wouldn't want to see any of them threatened with loss of work, or violence, or death, because of them. However, Emma and Dan in particular have both made it clear over the last few years that they think our former professional association gives them a particular right - nay, obligation - to critique me and my views in public. Years after they finished acting in Potter, they continue to assume the role of de facto spokespeople for the world I created. When you've known people since they were ten years old it's hard to shake a certain protectiveness. Until quite recently, I hadn't managed to throw off the memory of children who needed to be gently coaxed through their dialogue in a big scary film studio. For the past few years, I've repeatedly declined invitations from journalists to comment on Emma specifically, most notably on the Witch Trials of JK Rowling. Ironically, I told the producers that I didn't want her to be hounded as the result of anything I said. The television presenter in the attached clip highlights Emma's 'all witches' speech, and in truth, that was a turning point for me, but it had a postscript that hurt far more than the speech itself. Emma asked someone to pass on a handwritten note from her to me, which contained the single sentence 'I'm so sorry for what you're going through' (she has my phone number). This was back when the death, rape and torture threats against me were at their peak, at a time when my personal security measures had had to be tightened considerably and I was constantly worried for my family's safety. Emma had just publicly poured more petrol on the flames, yet thought a one line expression of concern from her would reassure me of her fundamental sympathy and kindness. Like other people who've never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she's ignorant of how ignorant she is. She'll never need a homeless shelter. She's never going to be placed on a mixed sex public hospital ward. I'd be astounded if she's been in a high street changing room since childhood. Her 'public bathroom' is single occupancy and comes with a security man standing guard outside the door. Has she had to strip off in a newly mixed-sex changing room at a council-run swimming pool? Is she ever likely to need a state-run rape crisis centre that refuses to guarantee an all-female service? To find herself sharing a prison cell with a male rapist who's identified into the women's prison? I wasn't a multimillionaire at fourteen. I lived in poverty while writing the book that made Emma famous. I therefore understand from my own life experience what the trashing of women's rights in which Emma has so enthusiastically participated means to women and girls without her privileges. The greatest irony here is that, had Emma not decided in her most recent interview to declare that she loves and treasures me - a change of tack I suspect she's adopted because she's noticed full-throated condemnation of me is no longer quite as fashionable as it was - I might never have been this honest. Adults can't expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend's assassination, then assert their right to the former friend's love, as though the friend was in fact their mother. Emma is rightly free to disagree with me and indeed to discuss her feelings about me in public - but I have the same right, and I've finally decided to exercise it.
“I think she’s going to find that you can’t sit on the fence... The real win is when ordinary people can say these things.” @DerryBanShee speaks to @joshxhowie about Emma Watson’s comments about JK Rowling. 📺 youtu.be/r2OGEITYe2Y

This ⬇️ is disgusting. I'm furious
The BBC has paid a former member of staff £400,000 after she was bullied out of the corporation for being Jewish. After October 7, filmmaker Lucie Kon was told by BBC staff that she was "evil" and needed to "consider what drove Hamas to do what they did". mol.im/a/16237847

Janice Turner in the Times, serves it cold to Sally Rooney. "Rooney’s work brims with jaded ennui: achievement is empty, love problematic, sex just a serotonin blip before postcoital gloom. Beautiful World, Where Are You? whines the title of her third novel. I’ve met young Ukrainians under nightly Russian drone attack who find more laughter and joy in life than her privileged, Mogadoned nihilists. The longing to feel something — anything — defines her characters and her own life. But now, at 35, Rooney has found meaning at last. The cause of Palestine is “to join in something greater than our selves, to participate in some small way in a struggle for human liberation”. Gaza is not about the suffering of a people but Rooney’s self-realisation." thetimes.com/comment/columni… If you are an acclaimed, voice-of-a-generation novelist there are infinite practical ways to deploy your fame and money to aid Gaza’s hungry, injured and displaced. But Rooney has chosen one that gives her the ultimate prize: pain-free public martyrdom.

100 days of Burnham and to his credit he is doing pretty well. Credit however where credit is due to the Greens and Polanski for clutching oblivion from the jaws of electoral success

An oldie but a goodie. In 1968 a bunch of entitled hippy bastards sent a letter detailing their specious demands to the Warden and Fellows of Wadham College, Oxford. This was their letter of reply, which speaks to how far the academy has since fallen.

I think everyone needs to get rid of their @lyft app right now and deactivate their account with them. Shocking behaviour
We got into a @lyft after being assaulted & ejected by @ThornsFC . One of our party is disabled w/a walker. The driver started the ride & then asked us if we were "the ones in the news" from the game. One of us said yes, & he immediately stopped the ride 1/n

I was reading this article and thinking "this is really good, does an amazing job of explaining a complex situation without being confusing" - and then saw the byline and realised why. Hannah is a national treasure.
🚨Hilary Cass has called for an independent inquiry into how Brighton GPs were allowed to prescribe cross-sex hormones to children as young as 12.“There urgently needs to be an investigation of why every system that should have protected children, young people, and indeed young adults has failed,” she told me. The employment tribunal between Dr Sarah Redvers and NHS Sussex has highlighted how regulators and the NHS collectively failed to stop prescribing of puberty blockers and hormones against national guidelines - for years - and how instead the person raising concerns was accused of transphobia and herself investigated. Dr Redvers sat down with me for her only newspaper interview about her treatment in a scandal which, Cass now says, “dwarfs” that of the Tavistock’s GIDS. Me for the Sunday Times… thetimes.com/article/cfde7b4…

🚨TRAGIC: While the world focuses on other conflicts, the Islamic Republic of Iran executed a 19-year-old boy today. His name is Erfan Esfandiari. He was his parents’ only child. He did not kill anyone. He did not carry a weapon. His only “crime,” according to the regime, was opening his door to shelter protesters fleeing from security forces. Erfan was one of 12 young men charged in the Alikhani Square case in Isfahan after being arrested during the January 2026 uprising. Yesterday, all 12 were moved to quarantine. Today, the regime hanged him. This is a government so afraid of a generation that refuses to stay silent that it executes teenagers for showing basic compassion. Say his name. The regime is trying to erase him. His grieving parents are left with nothing not even the freedom to mourn openly.

I have had four pregnancies and birthed three children. My first was a miscarriage. I breastfed all my babies. I fostered 5 children, 3 of whom are a very special part of our family. They now have families of their own. My son is married and soon to be a father. I am a wife, mother, daughter, sister, auntie. I am female. My experience as a woman is because I am female. No bloke in a frock, who is a eunuch or dependent on drugs for the rest of his life to pretend to be a woman can hold a torch to my womanhood or any woman. You don't have to be a mother to be a woman, but you do need to be a woman to be a mother.

Two pregnancies. Two women. Two babies. Apparently, when you’re shopping for human beings, buying in bulk gets you a better deal. Welcome to the baby industry where even human lives come with promotional offers.
