Russia has shown no sign of abandoning its strategic objectives.
Only stronger pressure, tighter sanctions and unwavering support for Ukraine will bring Russia to serious peace negotiations, says Foreign Minister @Tsahkna.
Only increased pressure on Russia will make it take peace negotiations seriously.
Every contact with Russia must convey Europe’s unity and determination to support Ukraine and maintain pressure on Russia, while making clear that Europe will not negotiate away the fundamental principles underpinning its security.
Ukraine wants peace, and Estonia supports all efforts to achieve it. But there is no indication that Russia has changed its strategic objectives or is genuinely interested in negotiations.
Russia’s goal is not merely to seize parts of Ukraine, but to subjugate the entire country and undermine Europe’s security order, founded on NATO and the EU.
A just and lasting peace requires increased pressure on Russia, tighter sanctions, action against sanctions evasion, Russia’s international isolation and unwavering support for Ukraine.
We must show Russia through concrete action that, as long as its war continues, pressure will remain strong and Ukraine’s supporters will not abandon it.

I spoke with the newly elected President of Estonia. I congratulated Ülle Madise @YlleMadise on taking office. Ukraine always wishes the people of Estonia nothing but success and the achievement of all their goals. I am grateful for the much-needed and right signals – Estonia’s support in all areas will continue. Estonia is also closely following the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace.
I shared details of the talks in Oslo and our communication with the American side following their meeting in Russia. There is an agreement to hold a trilateral meeting at the team level as early as November, and it is important that the meeting is not postponed. Ukraine is ready for negotiations at any time, and our position is that the sooner the talks begin, the better. Of course, like Estonia and other partners, we have always advocated for Europe’s presence in the negotiations. Europe must have a say in all formats that can deliver real decisions.
We also discussed the consequences of Russian strikes, particularly on our energy infrastructure and railways. Russia is deliberately trying to destroy our locomotives, and therefore any support that helps increase our rolling stock of this type would be very helpful. Thank you, Estonia!
Had a phone call with President @ZelenskyyUa, I reassured Estonia’s firm support for #Ukraine and its people. We will keep helping Ukraine defend itself and join the #EU and #NATO. Ukraine’s security is our security and as so we can’t accept borders changed by force.

The spirit of Estonia captured in one video.
From Tallinn’s medieval Old Town to its modern urban landscape, this video by folk dance troupe Soveldaja brings our traditions into the present, combining traditional dance with modern rap.
This is who we are as Estonians today — proud of our roots, committed to preserving our heritage, and open to the new.
A busy and fulfilling day in Seinäjoki, visiting local companies, the university and the beautiful Aalto Centre.
There is so much potential for Estonia and Finland to strengthen food security and drive innovation together. Thank you for the warm welcome! 🇪🇪🇫🇮
Undersecretary @MariinRatnik visited Helsinki today for discussions on Estonian-Finnish cooperation ahead of the Ukraine Recovery Conference in Tallinn in January 2027. Close cooperation between Estonia and Finland will help make the conference a success. 🇪🇪🇫🇮🇺🇦
It was a true pleasure and honour to welcome President @YlleMadise to Finland on her first visit. The friendship and special bond between Estonia and Finland continue to grow stronger! 🇪🇪🇫🇮

Estonia joins Finland’s call to suspend tourist visas for Russian citizens across the European Union.
As Russia continues its relentless assault on Ukraine, bombing cities, destroying civilian infrastructure, and killing innocent people, it is unacceptable that Russian citizens can still enjoy unrestricted leisure travel within the Schengen area.
Visa policy must reflect the gravity of Russia’s ongoing aggression. The EU should continue to strengthen pressure on the Kremlin through all available means.
We also urge the EU to swiftly adopt the necessary implementing acts to establish a comprehensive entry ban on Russian combatants.
We must stop issuing tourist visas for Russian citizens across the EU.
I have invited other EU Member States to join a letter addressed to the European Commission. I am calling for a complete EU ban on Russian tourist visas for as long as Russia continues its war of aggression.
It is not right that Russians can travel to Europe to enjoy the way of life and freedoms here while their country bombs the homes of Ukrainians. Issuing visas to Russians for non-essential travel was banned in Finland already in 2022. The same must finally happen at the EU level.
I am also calling for a ban on Schengen visas to Putin’s inner circle, visa restrictions for Russian athletes, and the effective implementation of the visa ban on Russian combatants.
The EU must act together.

Unwavering. Sacrosanct. Ironclad.
Our support for Ukraine.
Because that’s what defending Western civilisation requires: pressure on the aggressor and support for Ukraine — our bulwark against barbarism.
The outcome of this war will determine not only Ukraine’s freedom, but the future of freedom across Europe.

Tallinn and Helsinki are two marvellous cities with strong ties, shared interests and the potential to grow into an even more connected metropolitan region.
I had a good meeting with Helsinki Mayor Daniel Sazonov @Dansazo about how to build on that potential. A key part of our conversation was the Tallinn–Helsinki tunnel, which could bring our cities closer and strengthen links across the wider region and with the rest of Europe.
Connected to Rail Baltica, the tunnel would be part of a broader European transport network, creating new opportunities for people, businesses and tourism while strengthening our region’s resilience.
Now we need to move forward with planning, bring together partners at the city, regional and national levels, and take practical steps in both cities to prepare for the tunnel.

We meet often, including just last week in New York and regularly in Brussels, but it was a real pleasure to sit down properly with you here in Helsinki, dear @elinavaltonen.
Estonia and Finland face the same security challenges and share a clear view of what it will take to end Russia’s aggression against Ukraine. Close coordination and joint action are essential.
I briefed Elina on the arson attack against Milrem Robotics, which Estonia has established was an act of sabotage ordered by Russian special services. Russia will not intimidate us into reducing our support for Ukraine or our pressure on Moscow.
We also spoke in depth about competitiveness and connectivity. A Tallinn–Helsinki tunnel, linked to Rail Baltica, could bring the Nordic and Baltic region closer to the rest of Europe, boost tourism and competitiveness, and make our critical infrastructure more resilient.
Thank you for hosting me in beautiful autumnal Helsinki, dear Elina!
A warm welcome to Helsinki! 🇪🇪🇫🇮
Looking forward to heading to Helsinki on Tuesday to meet my good friend and colleague @elinavaltonen, among others.
In turbulent times, close coordination with Finland is essential to shaping our next steps together.
