Education is the most powerful cause for good.
A good education can change lives. A great education system can change countries.
It is the privilege of my life to be able to play a part in making our education system better and fairer and opening the doors of opportunity for more Australians.
We’ve just signed a long term agreement with the Victorian Government to fix the funding of all Victorian public schools.
This means we now have long-term agreements signed with every state and territory across the country to fix the funding of public schools.
Thank you to Afternoon Briefing for having me on to talk about this historic agreement with @PatsKarvelas
About 15 years ago David Gonski put in place a formula for how we should fund our schools.
No government has done it until now, until this Albanese Labor Government.
This week we signed a long-term agreement with the Victorian Government to fully and fairly fund all Victorian public schools.

There are amazing things happening in schools across Perth’s south.
Thanks to the students, teachers and staff at Koorana Education Support Centre and Ridge View Secondary College for inviting @MadeleineMHKing and me in for a sticky beak yesterday.
We checked out the soon to be open new Koorana classrooms funded through the Schools Upgrade Fund.
And had a great chat with Ridge View’s thoughtful school leaders about how they can make a difference in their community, now and through their lives.

We’ve got some big news.
Today we signed a long-term agreement with the Victorian Government to fully and fairly fund all Victorian public schools.
It’s the biggest new investment in Victorian public schools by an Australian Government ever.
It’s an extra $3.5 billion over the next decade.
And it means Victorian public schools will be funded at the level David Gonski recommended all those years ago.
This agreement also means we now have long-term agreements signed with every state and territory across the country to fix the funding of public schools.
And this money is not a blank cheque.
It’s tied to real reform.
Things like phonics and phonics checks, numeracy checks and catch up tutoring.
The things we know work.
That will drive results.
And help kids catch up, keep up and finish school.
This is great news for Victoria.
And this is a life changer for the kids who live there.

Thinking of Helen Haines, her family, her team and her community tonight.
This is a shocking and sickening attack.
Helen is one of the kindest and most decent people I have the privilege to know and work with.
Thank you to the first responders and the doctors and nurses who are caring for Helen tonight.
I want more young people in the regions to get a crack at going to uni.
The evidence is that where University Study Hubs are, participation goes up.
Great to see the Longreach Hub featured on @abcnews Landline. It’s bringing uni closer to home for students like Matt.
Great to see a lot of smiling faces today as we opened the new classrooms at St John’s Catholic Primary School in Auburn.
Thank you to Principal Fabrizia Calandra, Bishop Tony Percy and all the teachers, parents and especially the kids who made the morning so special.

This year more Aussies have started a uni degree than ever before.
And it’s just the start, because earlier this week the Parliament passed legislation that will open the doors of our universities even wider.
All of us know what a cesspit social media and online gaming can be.
Every single parent in the country is worried about this.
That’s what the Digital Duty of Care Bill is all about. Protecting our kids.
And I think those same parents will be shocked and sickened if the Liberal Party makes the decision to vote against this Bill.

“I thought uni was for fancy people.”
That’s what Georgia said before she did a FEE-FREE Uni Ready course.
They’re short courses that give people the skills they need to start a uni degree.
Georgia said she wouldn’t be in higher education without this and if it wasn’t accessible on the Central Coast.
These courses change lives.
That’s why we’re investing an extra $1 billion over the next decade to expand access to these courses for more people like Georgia.

Our early educators are the best asset we’ve got to keep kids safe. Thank you for all that you do.
From my speech at the Early Childhood Australia National Conference last week.
Together for Humanity does amazing work in schools, helping to tackle racism before it takes root.
Thank you to Rabbi Zalman Kastel and Madenia Abdurahman for bringing together a great group of Australians today to talk about that work and what more we can do in our schools to build understanding and strengthen social cohesion.
Dropped into the Campbelltown Medicare Mental Health Centre with @Emma4Dobell and Dr Mike Freelander for the start of Mental Health Month.
Thank you to the team for showing us round. What you do supporting and caring for your community is so important.
We need more people to do this work.
That’s why we’re bolstering the mental health workforce, including expanding paid prac to help clinical psychology students with their costs while they train.
