I join other UN mandate holders warning #EU and other states that they must not send Afghans back to danger and must uphold their international human rights obligations, including the principle of non-refoulement.
There must be no normalisation or legitimation of the Taliban unless there are concrete improvements in human rights.
Meetings with Taliban delegations such as in Brussels are regrettable and even when designated “technical” risk normalisation of gross human rights violations by the Taliban, including gender persecution.

People often generalise about Pakistanis - calling them "backwards", "uneducated" or "third worlders".
This is my beautiful father. He came to the UK in the 1960s as a young boy.
A father to five daughters, he taught me how to swim, ride a bike, drive and negotiate business deals.
He never once complained about not having a son.
For a Muslim Pakistani immigrant in Britain, he was more progressive than his time. While Britain was still fighting for women's rights, my father was making sure his daughters had every tool they needed to navigate the world.
He didn't raise daughters to be dependent on men. He raised us to be capable and fearless.
So the next time you hear someone stereotype British Pakistanis, remember this:
There are good and bad people in every community.
But never mistake someone's background for a measure of their worth.

There have been many reports that Pakistan is arming Afghans to fight the Taliban in Afghanistan. Now there are reports that the Pakistani military is recruiting Afghans to fight against anti-Pakistan insurgents. As things currently stand, relations between #Afghanistan and #Pakistan are likely to get much worse.

My mum has been a teacher for over 25 years.
Her school regularly raises money for Ukraine through school events, and teachers wear Ukrainian flag pins in solidarity.
She wears a Palestine badge.
She refuses to take it off while the school applies different standards to different conflicts and different civilian populations.
Supporting Palestinian civilians is not antisemitism, and expressing concern for their safety should not be dismissed or silenced.
Consistency is not extremism. It is a basic principle of fairness.
