Huge victory for #Shrewsbury24. Court of Appeal quashes convictions of pickets arrested during National Building Strike in 1972 - including Ricky Tomlinson.
Many congratulations to all of them and to indefatigable campaigner Eileen Turnbull

1. Education unions need our support today. Everyone wants children in school but with rocketing infection rates it is time for @GavinWilliamson to do his duty:follow science and close all primary and secondary schools for a few weeks to all but keyworker and vulnerable children.

We have to stand with school staff and young people & say no to schools reopening on Monday. So many people very anxious about returning with the virus levels so high. None of this is their fault! @NEUnion, school staff and children, we are with you! ✊🏻❤️

Important: Thurrock Public Health recommend that schools SHOULD NOT take part in the element of lateral flow testing that is an alternative to isolation - until they get clarifications on safety.

Today, the National Education Union has taken the difficult decision to advise its members in primary schools that it is unsafe to return to work on Monday. #MakeSchoolsSafe to #ProtectCommunities. Click here for full statement: neu.org.uk/press-releases/ne…

The National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) called for the Government to move all schools to home learning for a “brief and determined period for most children”, adding that the new strain had created “intolerable risk” to schools,

We have thousands of reps from all the country on our briefing right now. We must #MakeSchoolsSafe to #ProtectCommunities
Getting ready for probably the most important national.executive meeting of the NEU I will ever attend. We are in the middle of a public health crisis. This government is failing the people.

Just hearing: The Association of Kent Headteachers is pressing Kent County Council to move to all Primaries closed - as in London- rather than some in/others out ...
All learning in all settings nationwide should be online next week. That is what the science says. The government U turn in London should be extended to all schools and colleges.
All London primaries now online (except key worker/vulnerable) until 18th Jan earliest.
Astounding last minute decisions from the DfE
But they need another – for all primaries nationwide.
Sage say so. The Imperial College paper today says so. #ProtectCommunities #MakeSchoolsSafe

The #COVID19 variant is a threat to education.
The @NEUnion is calling for 3 urgent steps:
💻 Move learning Online for first 2 weeks of Jan
🏥 Public Health to set up mass testing in those weeks
💉 Begin vaccinating education staff

So @NickGibbUK @GavinWilliamson earlier this week you wrote to headteachers threatening legal action if they closed early because everything was fine - today your boss cancelled Christmas because it isn’t - you should hang your heads in shame
