X is quietly turning the timeline into a full checkout experience.X
A new 𝕏 Pay flow is being tested on Android that lets you pay merchants directly inside X. It includes a complete checkout with ship-to address, tax, receipt email, cashback, and support for amount holds. Merchants only receive the details they actually need (email and shipping address), while your X Money account information stays with X. There’s also a new US shipping address book inside X Money.
The interface shown in the demo is clean and native: you see the merchant, the total with tax broken out, your cashback rate and available balance, email, and ship-to address, then confirm with a single “Pay” button. Privacy messaging is explicit, and you can switch between funding sources or saved addresses on the fly.
This is a meaningful step beyond simple tips or peer-to-peer transfers. It starts to position X as a place where real commerce can happen without leaving the app—something closer to an in-platform marketplace than just a social feed with a payment button attached.
The demo uses a fictional “Northwind Coffee Co.” order, but the pieces (tax calculation, address book, selective data sharing, cashback) are the ones that matter for actual merchant adoption.

From childhood wire cars to industrial reality?
The idea in this post is powerful on paper: take the ingenuity behind mota yemawaya — that classic Zimbabwean (and broader Southern African) childhood creativity of turning scrap wire into functional toys — and channel it into real STEM education, design skills, patents, local manufacturing, and exportable products under Heritage-Based Education 5.0 and NDS2.
In principle, this makes sense. Resourceful problem-solving, hands-on making, and turning local ideas into businesses are exactly the foundations of manufacturing capacity. Many successful engineers and makers started by tinkering with whatever was available.
But the video and the framing also raise the hard questions Zimbabweans are already asking in the replies:
Is this still a children’s learning tool, or has it become adult street spectacle?
Where is the actual pathway from wire-frame carts to scalable, certified, commercially viable electric mobility, robotics kits, or agricultural equipment?
What concrete support (tooling, materials science, IP protection, access to capital, market testing, quality standards) turns this nostalgia into factories and jobs rather than another slogan?
Creativity is abundant. The missing piece has always been the systems that turn it into durable industry — reliable power, financing, skills pipelines beyond primary school, and policy that rewards production over consumption.
Yesterday’s wire car can inspire tomorrow’s engineer. The real test is whether NDS2 actually funds and measures the steps in between.
