Forgot to mention, this pup had his 8th birthday yesterday. He has been my friend through many disappointments, several joys, and Lord willing many more of the latter.
This past week was so weird. Things were until they weren’t, and weren’t until they were. Everything felt like a moving target, often in low light conditions.
You do what you gotta do, though.
Gained a few followers from this one. To the new folk, welcome! Come on in.
My name is Jeremy. I am a (sort of) new Catholic, single and looking. Most of what I share comes from those two, but I also talk about books and music a fair clip.
Glad yer jhere (the "j" is silent)
Last night Meg, our canon lawyer who was presenting on marriage and family, was talking about having to remain celibate for life if an annulment is not granted.
You could hear the room go silent, feel it go still. A tension overtook the room at the horror of the thought. Even Meg acknowledged how difficult and perhaps even undesirable such a life would be.
And I just stood there listening to and feeling everyone consider living the life I currently live. It was a strange, unpleasant moment.
I am so grateful for Pope Leo
Our likeness to Christ also matures in the midst of difficulties, such as when work seems fruitless, when our strength wanes or when we must start anew. Eventually endurance leaves its mark. Over the years, a gaze can become more merciful, hands more willing to serve and words more capable of comforting. May trials always find us united to Jesus, so that they may help us to grow in His love. #ApostolicJourney #Uruguay

OCIA update: the marriage and family class. Marriage and children are great blessings and favors from God.
I’m going to bed.
I've been short tempered lately. If you have borne the brunt of this, or if I have said something rude or short sighted, please accept my apology

Friends, what is chastity—the second of the evangelical counsels?
Though the clergy and religious practice chastity through celibacy, the virtue itself is just as applicable to the laity.
Chastity simply means sexual uprightness or a rightly ordered sexuality—and this means bringing one’s sexual life under the aegis of love.
As Thomas Aquinas taught, love is not a feeling but rather an act of the will—more precisely, willing the good of the other. It is the ecstatic act by which we break free from the ego, whose gravitational pull wants to draw everything to itself.
Notice how the Church’s teaching that sex belongs within the context of marriage is meant to hold off this negative tendency. In saying that our sexuality should be subordinated to unity (the radical devotion to one’s spouse) and procreation (the radical devotion to one’s children), the Church is endeavoring to bring our sex lives completely under the umbrella of love.
What would our country look like if, starting today, every Catholic lived out the counsel of chastity? We would make an enormous dent in the pornography business; human trafficking would be dramatically reduced; abortions would appreciably decrease; and families would be significantly strengthened.
